It's probably not actually that long, maybe a half-hour or so. It just feels like a huge chunk of game-time because of how short the game is at the moment.
And... I forgot about the two bosses in the flashback. The first one is pretty easy, the second one... well, there's a save point right before him. :p Remember to buff, though, and you should be fine, seeing as you have an end-game party for that part. ;) |
Oh, a couple more suggestions, while I'm thinking of it. The spot before the attack on town, when Tristam and Orec are talking, Granny is still wandering around. She actually got run over when Horyuu ran in, you may want to either make her stationary or if possible remove her from the house for that scene. Also, in the beginning of the flashback, there was a cut back to the house for Amilia to say one line. Since the scene doesn't change (it goes right back to the King's bedchamber) it might be better flow-wise if she just said her line in the scene, as it's apparent it's a flashback and she's narrating.
|
Those are both excellent suggestions, and that's kind of funny, too. Easy enough to shut her off for that scene.
And come to think of it, the cut back to the house was a fair bit of extra work. I'm wondering why I ever even included it. :p Oh, and her backstory is pretty heavily inspired by the Dragonlance novel Time of the Twins, which I must have been reading when I first came up with this part of the story. I'd feel bad, but project is just for fun, so I'll borrow whatever I like. :p |
Mentioning that I can see it now, Time of the Twins is rushing back to me. Actually during the flashback scene Granny is still wandering the house while everyone else is talking, I'm only noticing because I'm not moving quickly through this while I hang out here :p
|
Maybe she should get killed in the attack...
:p Nah, that might make Orec go completely insane. |
Yes, yes it would. And WOW I'm surprised but I'm recognizing a music, in the flashback when Xavier makes landfall, it's one of the battle musics in Dragon Force. Oh it brings back memories...I'll probably end up talking about it in our other game chatting thread.
Should I be taking notes about any formatting or spelling things I run across? :p |
Bleh. My game download ran away again and I can't find it. I'll try the megaupload one later. Not into downloading stuff at the moment, with sketchy net and all. It's vexing.
|
Aww, so not fair Quiet. I'm enjoying the music in the background as I post here ^^;

Oh, and you should be coming up on Quiet's cameo soon. It's pretty much impossible to miss. :p |
Yes, I found the cameo... and I literally had a LMAO moment xD And, well, maybe it's from a band but I played Dragon Force on the Saturn to death, trust me, this is battle music from that game.
|
Amazing, the things you learn sometime. But, then, that band is really into video games from what I remember; I can see them doing something like that, especially since they have the same name. :p
Oh, and have fun with those bosses. |
Sigh. That's how it is. It has it's good days, or I can maybe harass my brother to let me use my comp upstairs where th connection is just peachy. No need to concern yourself. :)
|
I still say we beat it with cudgels until it decides to be more cooperative...
|
It seems to be in cahoots with my computer seeing as the last two download attempts inexplicably disappeared. Is it possible for computers to embezzel?
|
Suzerain even has two morning stars... lend me one, I'll help :p
Another suggestion...I know you have a "run" button but the walking speed is painfully slow at times. I notice it especially in areas where running is disabled. Also, for an area with no random encounters the beach in the flashback seems awfully large, but I'm guessing it will be used again later. |
Hmm... maybe your computer is a time-traveling sentient A.I. from the post-singularity.
I suggest we give it a lobotomy to be sure. Edit: If you mean in the temple, Serra, I think I agree. The problem is there's no in-between. It's either too fast or too slow, and for that particular area, I wanted to build up a ponderous feel, but... it is a game, not a story. Maybe allowing running wouldn't be so bad, there. And the beach actually used to have random encounters until I realized they made no sense based on the plot. :p |
Alright, attempt 3 with the megaupload file. Still looks like it will take a while but it's both. How nice.
|
Suzerain, unless the beach will be revisited later on in the game, I recommend making it smaller. The second screen is fine, to me, but the beach feels too large to me, since nothing really goes on there.
Edit: Haha, in the Temple "It feels like we've been walking for weeks!" Maybe you can keep the slow walking speed for there, it makes that line all the better xD |
Um... I might actually be planning to go back there at some point. I don't have all the details worked out yet.
If I did, battles would be in, though. How far in are you now? |
Currently on the long, windy path where i want to run but that line I edited in above fits how I feel so well maybe it's best this way xD
|
Oh, I didn't see that. Yeah, that was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but kind of the point, too. :p
I'm not sure if that issue crops up anywhere else, or if its as noticeable if it does. But the temple is the only place I want it to deliberately feel slow. |
I notice it anyplace the running is disabled. I've played a lot of RPGs and I just like to run around since I like to check everywhere.
On a side note, I had a power flicker right before the save point in the crystal hallway. -sigh- Someone is asking me to go play Elsword so I'll probably do that for a while, and return to your game tomorrow Suzerian. |
Right, I'm about done for the night anyway. God forbid you hit a snag and I not be around to freak out about my oversights. :p

My computer finished downloading your game right after I got Alice... sorry, but I'm gonna have to delay the testing for a while. ;; I have three free days to get around to it though, so I'll definitely have enough time to try it out. |
Sigh. Download attempt 3 locked up at 60%, download attempt 4 worked but wont extrace because both the files are corrupt, or so it says. Might give the old version another try. Later. :p
|
Aww, are you SURE we can't hit your internet a while Quiet?
|
I wonder why it would say they're corrupt. I'll try and download them on a different computer and see if it does the same thing for me.
|
If Quiet's internet is really acting up it could have corrupted the download. Unless you've changed it again, the one I downloaded from Megaupload was just fine.
|
Oh, I put up a new file with both files compressed into one, after Dolly suggested that idea. I'm going to download it now and see if there's a problem.
|
Yes that's the one I downloaded so I could redo the first boss.
|
Yeah, I just downloaded it and tried it myself, it works fine.
Oh, and Quiet, if you can get a better connection, it should only take like 5 minutes, not 40+. :p |
I got a much better download speed from Megaupload than I did from the other place.
Let me have a morning star Suzerain, let's beat Quiet's internet until it behaves x.x |
Morningstar's technically don't have chains. :p Those are more like military flails, though comically oversized.
Regardless, though, the idea is the scare Quiet's net into submission, not beat it into a pulp. :p |
Ohh right, bad me, I wasn't thinking flail because that makes me think of whips, and those are certainly NOT whips. I can imagine those would take a lot of practice to use without actually hurting oneself :p
Now then, I have some practice with submission, where ARE those whips... |
I don't know if I've ever actually seen a flail depicted accurately in any form of media. The heads were usually like half the size of an apple; you didn't need that much weight to cause a lot of damage and making the heads oversized like that would make the weapon unwieldable. The whole idea was to keep it constantly spinning in order to distract the enemy. They were usually one-handed (and hence, even lighter) so you could use a shield with them, as the weapon's pretty purely offensive besides trying to disarm with it.
|
I watched a series on Medieval weaponry that had put together re-enactments and such. Interesting show. Yeah, flail balls were tiny, somewith very long chains infact, but unfortunately were only good for one swing because the idea was to keep them moving and starting back up again would take too much time and effort. Hence knights carried a pile of weapons.
What I found fascinating was that the flail was later in coming than other stuff. It seems almost primative but it was a reaction to plate armour, along with the effectivenes of frightened peasants with wheat flails against mounted knights. The internet did behave throughout the forth download but it may have clicked off an on too fast for the little globe icon to register. S*it happens. |
So you still don't get to try it out Quiet?
I'd be happy to torture your internet into submission, I know several non-lethal methods... -shifty eyes- |
Nah, it works well about, just not in my preferred spots. Though my brother does get inclined ot strangle it once and a while. The upstairs here is a wireless forest and managing everything can get tricky. It seems to be behaving tonight so far. I thin having MSN open tends to bother it. 'Tis sensetive apparently.
|
I think I saw that same show, Quiet. Can't remember what it was called, though.
And I forgot to even ask you about the game last night. I take it you still haven't been able to download it? |
Haven't tried since the corrupted issue (and I cringe to look at the errors in my last post. My defence is that I cut my nails partially and it's really odd to go from long nails to not so long. Much easier to go from long to short.).
