Although not strictly 'vampires', I recommend the Dark series (I think that's what the series is called) by Christine Feehan. One of my favorites, especially Dark Demon.
|
I know 2.5 good Vampire series.
One is by Katie MacAlister. She has the Dark Ones series. The other 1.5 is by Lynn Viehl. She started with Darkyn series, but has branched it into another series called the Kyndred series. |
Definitely try House of Night series, they are great books and a wonderful story line.
|
May have already been suggested >.>;;
Vampire Academy is a good read. I actually collected the whole series and I'm waiting for the sequel series. :D Vampire Academy is good if you like the girl protagonist type, so it's not exactly the whole "damsel in distress" type that's annoying. Rose saves herself and kicks ass :D
As for House of Night, I believe that it's not for the strongly religious type of people, like those hardcore Christians. HoN is more for the open-minded, although I can't really say much about it since I'm only up to the fourth book. Somebody suggested the Riley Jenson Guardian series!!! :D YAY! I think I haven't read one or two of that series because I can't bloody find them in the library :\ But, from what I've read, it's amazing but this series would be for the adult audience since it has pretty detailed sex scenes. (I found these books when I was fourteen >.>;; ) The main vampire character is Irish ;) I've read a bit of L.J Smith. I'm currently reading Dark Visions which is pretty good so far, but the vampire in it isn't your average vampire that are those blood suckers. I'm not halfway in the book yet so I can't say much about this book. (It's a three books in one type I believe, sicne the one I borrowed is that type.) As for the Anne Rice books, I've only ever read Pandora (I think it was...). It's pretty good as it looks into the historical background and all that, so it's quite interesting. (I had to do a little googling to remember this one) The Dark Angel trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. Okay, I know it doesn't sound like a vampire book, but they call the antagonist dude a vampyre, so I guess he is one (he's not the blood sucking type though). Damn, I read this one quite a while ago actually and that's only the first book (I can't find the others DX). I actually think it's only the first book that has the "vampyre" in it though... But I won't say anymore since it'll probably spoil it. Darren Shan series. Damn, I loved and hated that series, but you'll have to read it to see why xD. The ending was too strange for me but the plot is really interesting and original. Anyway, I think that's all the vampire books I've ever read. I have a friend who's a vampire book expert and was even before the Twilight series became popular. |
I mentioned Riley Jenson, Elf-san :D she totally rocks, i love her attitude. As the motto on the covers i have go; "Half Vampire, Half Werewolf, All Trouble"
And i'm struggling to find a few of them myself, i have the first few up until Dangerous Games, then none until Moon Sworn, which is the last, so frustrating. But the books are delicious, pick them up. And yes, Quinn is scrumptious. I thought Misha was scrumptious too. |
its been forever since ive read any good pure vampire books.
|
I don't remember who Misha is >.>;
But Quinn *drool* <3 xD Oh, I finally remembered. I've read a Vamps by Nancy A. Collins, the second book being Night life and third is After Dark. I'm pretty sure a fourth book would be coming out P: These books are more teen and they have those "cliques" and stuff like that (bitchy vamps, vamp hunters, vamp lords), but it's pretty good. My friend (that I mentioned in my last post) lent me a bunch of her books so now I can read the second volume of Night World~ :D |
PC Cast...I never got the cult feeling. It's a religion....and Christianity was once a cult.
So were other religions. I like The black dagger brotherhood from JR Ward. Sex all over the place btw |
I absolutely love the Dark Hunter Series by Sherilynn Kenyon. Although I have to agree that Twilight pretty much ruined vampire reputations. I saw one of the movies and tried to read the first book but just couldn't. As to P.C' Cast, I sort of liked her first couple books but absolutely cannot stand her main heroine. I haven't been able to read any of her recent books in the series due to disinterest.
If you haven't read them yet, I suggest Kresley Cole. She works with demons and many other supernaturals as well but at least four of her stories are about vampires and are really good I do have to give a lemon warning though...her books are not for virgin minds. Another author who does vampire books is Laurell K. Hamilton but her later works seem mostly sex and strong violence, it rather feels she has lost her storyline. Her first few works aren't as bad but it is a matter of taste. Christine Feehan also does the Carpathian novels and while I don't care for how she portrays females generally many people do like her work. Again though lemon warning. Carpathians are not vampires but are very similar. |
Kresley Cole!!! I love that woman! She wrote my beloved Kiss of a Demon King which is one of my all time faves.
"Illusion is reality's coy lover . . . I am illusion, Rhydstrom." ~ Sabine. and Hoshi, Cast's Goddess Summoning series is a lot better than the HoN books, less innocent for a start. |
What about a book/series with a vampire supporting character? He doesn't appear as often as I'd like, but when he does, I can't help but love him...
The series is called Chronicles of the Necromancer by Gail Z. Martin, and the first book is called The Summoner. I am currently reading the first book and loving it. The main character is a "Summoner" as they call him and can communicate with the undead (usually spirits/ghosts). The book is about him, however the supporting cast is very fun. He is accompanied by a bard, who is just awesome and his best friend who is a soldier. The vampire character appears later, saving a friend of theirs who joins up with them, and after that he starts appearing more and more. I hope to see more of him, cause he's really great! One of the main villains of this series is also a vampire, but... You are meant to not like him, and I certainly don't. I love villains that you can like, since that makes them feel more... human, however this character is far from human! <3 |
Harry Potter - Best vampire books ever written.

My grandma used to tell me that when i was little, then wondered why i didn't want to watch the disney version :D
The original Dracula . . . not so big on the original, but i like one of the the cut-down versions that has these totally amazing full-page colour illustrations as well as small pencil sketches. Can't remember the company that published it though, shame as i'd like a copy of it. |
cirque du freak best series ever. two thumbs way up :)
|
Oh oh oh!
There's a Dracula Illustrated version. These are some of the photos, but they're massive soo! xD |
Nope, sorry but they're not the same ones. These ones were gothic art, like the vampiresses and witches you see in the posters nowadays, only not so fantasy-like. I'll have to have a look around and see if i can find one of the pictures for you, then maybe i can find the book. My favourite was of Lucy in the graveyard; it was all in silvers and greys and blue tones, the only real colours were the blood on her lips and dress, her eyes and her hair. The artwork was fantastic, and the book cut out all the long drabble-sections of journal to get to the story.
Those pics are nice though, especially the one that looks like a horse's head, kinda demonic. |
I'm calling it
