not to mention the strange saturated designs XD

Coda 09-19-2019 12:17 AM

Yeah, I know about the crane game... it does work if you hook up a Bluetooth keyboard. XD

Biomecha 09-19-2019 02:56 AM

Trisphee spoiled me and now I can't go back to anything that doesn't use layering, so here and Pantheon are the only ones I use at the moment. I also prefer a more proportional head, but still want to have enough room for details. Even if they aren't noticeable.

KofK is still rather active. More active than here but that be how it is

littl3chocobo 09-19-2019 04:40 AM

to be fair it is as much a pet site as anything and those tend to go on until the staff throttle them

Kitalpha Hart 09-19-2019 05:08 AM

I don't think Firn or Starkad have plans to throttle
At least, I hope not
A shame the person running Useffel decided they weren't able to keep up and shut it down tho, and that was with several offers from others to take over

Stabbsworth 09-19-2019 09:23 AM

windlyn looks pretty interesting. i'll take a look at both that and knuffel.

i do like trisphee's avatar layering system, though, as it's *really* fucking useful.

Burnt Rice 09-19-2019 02:03 PM

Subeta did layering on avatars too. But the site itself was too much of a mess for me to continue on. It turned into a Gaia very quickly, in the sense that you pay real life money for a lot of things on there. Also a lot of their cooler pieces are created by users who only release a limited amount of said items. So really, you can be dropping hundreds on that site. And the community seemed pretty ok with that. Anyone who complained was told they can buy things using in game currency, but that was a bit hard...

Anyway, that's part one of "why I left Subeta" rant.

Really enjoyed Sapherna as well. Though that community seemed to have slowed down a bit. Adorable avatars even if you can't really layer things as you'd like.

the obsession though is actually hair. big heads means big hair and small bodies mean you do not have to commit to large avatars

It started with an E, right? I think? Fell apart due to staff embezzling issues?

Note to self: ask my friend who codes for Subeta about the currency.

Burnt Rice 09-19-2019 04:17 PM

If it's anything like it used to be, everyone was "loaded" yet couldn't buy anything. lol
The sad part was when they removed interest in their bank. It became a place to store sP so that random events didn't steal it all. Which isn't a bad thing, but sad none the less.

Stabbsworth 09-19-2019 04:25 PM

huh. i guess it's a good thing that i never got into subeta.

Burnt Rice 09-19-2019 05:53 PM

I was pretty into the site. Had so much junk that it took me a couple weeks to give out. Not something you want to be doing when getting ready for vacation! Probably could have timed that better.

Kitalpha Hart 09-19-2019 06:02 PM

Say, anyone here remember Syndrone?

Talking about Ernya, I think?

littl3chocobo 09-19-2019 10:00 PM

nope, eryna closed from embezzling but it wasn't a pet site. it had mono-tone monthlies and sold colours separately as well

hart has it though, i was thinking syndrone. fuck me how many sites i've gotten into during or just after beta X''D

there was a german pet site that was all aout plants instead of animals. i rather liked that one though they had super limited room for collecting and the sole artist died a few years back

Coda 09-19-2019 10:14 PM

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that embezzling happened on more than one site.

littl3chocobo 09-19-2019 10:16 PM

i want to say it had a couple of the same owners though. a lot of leads tend to make a site and then leave it for another new site. i used to keep tabs on this sort of thing(i knew so many mods afterall) but that feels like a lifetime ago

how do they even manage to keep the servers up if the site gets left behind

littl3chocobo 09-20-2019 06:39 PM

that is more of a coda question than a choco one X''D

Kitalpha Hart 09-20-2019 06:43 PM

Change owners
Keep paying for the servers

Espy 09-20-2019 07:03 PM

My second guess was S. Yeah, Syndrone. I actually liked the feel of that site, but boy was it cliquey. Not as much as Ernya, but still.

littl3chocobo 09-20-2019 07:05 PM

i dunno, i wasn't able to sell art on syndrome because i didn't come with recommendations but i sold plenty on ernya and while neither were hospitable in clubs you could at least leave a comment without getting outright harassed for daring to impeded on a good time XD

Kitalpha Hart 09-20-2019 07:09 PM

Doesn't help that on Syn the worst one was friends with the owner and could get away with bullying and harassment because of that connection

littl3chocobo 09-20-2019 07:13 PM

dude, that guy sent me nasty pms for a while until i could finally get mod help.

Biomecha 09-20-2019 07:16 PM

That would be an interesting superpower. Giving people PMS.

littl3chocobo 09-20-2019 07:17 PM

haaaahaha X''D shame on you!

though to be fair from what i know about pms there isn't much of a difference

Kitalpha Hart 09-20-2019 07:51 PM

I had a mule on there that had a private hangout
They popped until said hangout, I politely reminded them that this was a private one and they were not on the list, so please do not return

And yes private hangouts were allowed on there

Had to deal with the same person on two other sites. One I left because a mod decided to go after every single post made before the rules existed on there, and the other members decided to band up and give them a taste of their own medicine and they didn't like it
Last I heard they went back to Gaia and I hope they stay there

Stabbsworth 09-21-2019 12:18 PM

oof. sounds like assholery.

Coda 09-21-2019 11:07 PM

Keeping a server running passively isn't hard. Hosting fees for a small site can be sufficiently cheap to be ignorable.

KittyBeary 09-24-2019 10:10 PM

Does Pokefarm count as a pet site? XD I've been on there.

Claire Bear 09-24-2019 11:01 PM

i'm on every avi site i can find. my main home online is virtualpopstar.com i think i just have the most friends there.

and lately i've been on this french avi site sailorfuku.com i can't understand a word of it but they use the old candybar dollmaker base and have cute outfits. not a lot of room for creativity tho like on trisphee.

trisphee is one of the better avi sites. it's one of the few that's not abandoned and the avi creation systems are top notch. like one of the best i've seen.

there's a masterlist of avi sites on the menewshwa forums that pretty good. best list of avi sites that i am aware of. if theres'a better list out there i'd love a link. https://www.menewsha.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216537 i find it too hard to earn currency on menewsha but your mileage may vary.

KittyBeary 09-24-2019 11:07 PM

Sadly registration is disabled for Midorea. :(

bluebird 09-24-2019 11:55 PM

WOAH WOT hold the phone? midorea looks like completely something else now? this is exciting!?

bluebird 09-25-2019 12:18 AM

*hacker voice* I'm in.

wow the old phpBB forum is still running behind the scenes. you're not missing much. i've only found one thread that has activity from this month and year. the rest are stuck in 2014-2018. what a time capsule. the last announcement was in 2014.

The newest member joined back in 2017. ;_; So yeah looks like registration's been disabled for a while(think I tried joining sometime last year but it was disabled then too)

It does seem quite inactive sadly.

Any examples? Idk if I'd want to join on it being french, but if the outfits are cool enough I may give it a shot

Stabbsworth 09-25-2019 09:05 AM

Avalyss is in a closed beta, I think. So I might be looking forward to that.

littl3chocobo 09-25-2019 01:46 PM

i dunno, the bases look unicreatures level of bad x''D like i know trisphee's shading is inconstant and crysandrea's anatomy was absent and gaia over and under details to the point of distraction but this has all of those problems at the same time and it's super creepy and disorientating. how am i supposed to reconcile hyper-anime chins with notably detailed metatarsals???? those are two entirely different sorts of design choices

i understand most avi sites have a problem or too but i just cannot take avalyss seriously at all XD

Stabbsworth 09-25-2019 01:53 PM

eh, i think it looks decent enough tbh. plus there's support for an androgynous body type.

I checked the midorea tumblr FAQ; they’ve completely ditched the forum aspect of it, I think. You can read them, but can’t actually interact w anything.
