Merskelly Metalien 01-22-2019 10:33 PM

<w<; I'll admit...one time in my school library I forgot where I was when I was reading something with a twist in it, and just blurted out "What?!" right out of nowhere, and made like, three people look up in confusion. <x}
and then I left to hide in some obscure corner out of sheer embarrassment.. o-o;

trystan830 01-22-2019 10:50 PM

aww....

the time i did that, i was in bed, at night, pretty sure hubby was asleep next to me, and i'm reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. when the character announced "I am the Half-Blood Prince!" i sat straight up in bed and said "what??!" hubby didn't wake up though

Merskelly Metalien 01-22-2019 11:08 PM

x} Haha it must've been quite the surprise!
I didn't have the luxury of reading the Half-Blood Prince first and finding it out, because I saw all the movies first. <x'D Haha, it wasn't as crazy a surprise in the movies tho.

The reaction was more, ">:3 Ooo." than "What?! 8o"

trystan830 01-22-2019 11:44 PM

oh i was very surprised. i'm the person who doesn't catch most foreshadowing until 5 seconds before it's revealed, so....

Merskelly Metalien 01-23-2019 03:49 AM

x} hahaha, I'm just the opposite, I anticipate and try to spoil a surprise before it comes my way, and I end up predicting it..but for you, in a way it's nice not catching on right away because such surprises are always received with, well...surprise! :D

trystan830 01-23-2019 12:01 PM

yep. i like surprises.

when i started watching this one tv show, the fandom was.... well, 'crazy' is a nice word, and they hated almost everything the show did, so i was very into spoilers so i could refute their hatred. i did that for like 5 seasons, it got very tiring. now, no more spoilers for anything (if i can help it, that is)

Merskelly Metalien 01-24-2019 03:56 AM

:] Ohhhh. Yes, always avoid spoilers if possible! -u- A good rule to remember.
Even though I get super curious sometimes and really really want to spoil it just to be on the same page as everyone else or ahead of everyone else, but, <x{ I mustn't! No more never again! -n-
So now...I don't watch...shows. X'D anymore. haha.

Well, that isn't true entirely. <u<; I watch..ehhh, Stranger Things and like...RWBY..but I largely ignore the fanbase, especially for RWBY. >~>;;
But I like to watch shows when all the hype and stuff has died down when the series is over entirely. -u- I loved watching Doctor Who, but I'm so far behind now, and just lost interest after a while. :[
So now most of the shows I watch now are on Netflix or Amazon Prime. And I don't really watch a whole lot of them to begin with. ^~^; hehe..

i've done that ^ with shows too!

i love Doctor Who... i'm all caught up. =)

Merskelly Metalien 01-24-2019 04:37 PM

Yehh, I did that with Breaking Bad and Lost. >u>; Watched them when all the seasons of the show were finished and the hype died. It was nice.

Oh! Question: <x} Do you also read with your bookmark going down lines of text as you read?? Or do you use other things besides/as a bookmark?

trystan830 01-24-2019 06:16 PM

Lost is on my rewatch list - i watched that one live, hype and all XD

to answer your question: sometimes. if it's something that i'm just not getting, i will. otherwise, no.

Merskelly Metalien 01-25-2019 03:36 AM

x} Hahaha, I sort of got aboard that hype train as it was stopping at the final station on the 5th and 6th seasons.

Ohhh, :D I see. I do it out of habit, but also for that same reason, <x} When my brain is on [SCAN] mode and not picking up everything and retaining it for the story. xD

trystan830 01-25-2019 05:58 PM

my brain is always on scan mode, and sometimes i miss stuff.

Merskelly Metalien 01-26-2019 01:38 AM

<x{ Right? Too many years as a student just taught me to scan for the answers to questions, stuff highlighted or bolded and speed reading for nights of cramming and ugly homeworks. *sigh* <:/
Have to retrain myself all over again to read slower and have fun going at a steady pacing. xD hehe, but I wanna read so much.

trystan830 01-26-2019 08:53 PM

well that would take the joy right out of reading, i suppose. :S

Merskelly Metalien 01-27-2019 02:29 AM

It certainly would. :[ *nodnod*
Speaking of which, I'm on Chapter 2 of The Picture of Dorian Grey. And it's going great! xD My mind has decided to keep imagining the story as a gothic English anime for some reason, haha!

trystan830 01-27-2019 02:41 AM

oh nice! i know Dorian's story in general... he was also a character on the show Penny Dreadful. i'm sure he wasn't like that in the book XD

Merskelly Metalien 01-27-2019 02:50 AM

Ohhh. :D Still have yet to see Penny Dreadful. Netflix says I'd like it a lot haha. cX

trystan830 01-27-2019 09:57 PM

the third season seemed kinda not in line with S1 and 2, but that could just have been me. i enjoyed it all though. =)

Merskelly Metalien 01-28-2019 01:01 AM

Did you hear that The Dark Crystal series is coming to Netflix this year? :D

trystan830 01-28-2019 02:01 AM

actually, i hadn't!

Merskelly Metalien 01-28-2019 05:24 AM

:] It's going to be practical effect puppetry like the movie and everything! I don't know what it's about or when it's arriving since dates for releases on Netflix are always different depending on the country. :o
But it's going to be a sort of prequel series called, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. :D I think it's going to touch on how the Skeksis came to be and what happened to the Gelflings.

trystan830 01-28-2019 11:44 AM

...would you believe i've not seen the movie... o_O

Kaderin Triste 01-28-2019 02:29 PM

I haven't seen that movie either. Although, I've always wanted to.

trystan830 01-28-2019 02:33 PM

my county library system has it. hmm....

Kaderin Triste 01-28-2019 10:01 PM

...am so close to finishing a book, but suddenly have lost interest in the book.
Fuck.
XD
Have only until Thursday to finish it if I want to not fall behind on my challenge though. Should probably read a chapter or 2 tonight...

trystan830 01-28-2019 10:45 PM

what book is that, Kaderin?

Kaderin Triste 01-28-2019 11:18 PM

The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan. Despite owning it, I listened to The Eye of the World on audio book and it got me back into the Wheel of Time series, which I love, but never have finished.

trystan830 01-28-2019 11:59 PM

ah... i haven't read any Robert Jordan

Kaderin Triste 01-29-2019 12:19 AM

*packs full series to mail to you*
>.>
I have only read (about 3/4 of) the WoT series, but they are awesome! Highly recommend.

trystan830 01-29-2019 12:35 AM

i already have a nice-sized list of stuff i want to read/re-read XD

If you like dark stuff, magic, and puppets, it's totally for you. xD
I think there was even a graphic novel series spawned from the movie and had a ton of lore or something. :]

Kaderin Triste 01-29-2019 04:31 AM

Puppets are hit or miss with me. (Ex: I love Muppets, but hate sesame street.) But I have seen the dvd case of it and it looks like something I'd enjoy. The opportunity to watch it has just never come around.

Merskelly Metalien 01-29-2019 04:37 AM

:D Oh totally enjoyable. Jim Henson created the muppets and I think the Dark Crystal was one of his final collaborative projects before he died. :c
It's a good watch, I'd recommend it ^-^ because it's really a fantasy world of it's own with all sorts of cool, scary and adorable creatures and people.
I absolutely love Fizgig, whatever he is! x'D Haha!

Kaderin Triste 01-29-2019 04:47 AM

Awww...what a cute little ball of fluff and rage!

Merskelly Metalien 01-29-2019 05:09 AM

He really is haha! X'D

trystan830 01-29-2019 11:32 AM

like Kaderin, i just haven't really gotten round to watching it. i'll get there one day.

as for Henson muppets - i really loved the show Farscape - a scifi show with muppets!

Kaderin Triste 01-29-2019 07:59 PM

Never have seen Farscape either. O.o
But I have very vague memories of Fraggle Rock.

Oh yeah! I always forget that Labyrinth was a Jim Henson movie too. XD
Love that little wormy/caterpillar guy.

trystan830 01-29-2019 09:08 PM

i LOVED Farscape. i rewatched it not all that long ago =)

and Labyrinth was a great movie =)

Quiet Man Cometh 01-31-2019 04:20 AM

Brian Froud was the creative director for Dark Crystal. You can see it in the look of some of the characters.

Well I was reading through my new Witcher book but I am further inundated with kids' books. I picked up 18 holds the other day, and still have about 6-7 on hand. I think I'm done with picture books though. Time to move on to novels, of which I have about a dozen to weed through. Joy.

I have also decided that if Roald Dahl were to publish his books now, they would not be okay. Just finished James and the Giant Peach and relatives crushed to dead by fruit and a bomb scare in New York probably wouldn't go over well, as silly as it might otherwise be.

Also, Puddle Pug is the cutest book ever. Except for the picture where he's sad. Poor Percy.
