That's very helpful to know o:
It's weird that it only does that maybe..3/10 times?

Coda 11-30-2015 09:15 PM

No, it's not weird, it just means your system is right on the edge where it runs fine most of the time but a little bit of extra background load on your computer (in another app or another tab) is enough to nudge it over the edge.

Obsidian 11-30-2015 09:26 PM

I'm not trying to be offensive here, but Salone, you seem to be the only one (other than Coda) who seems to not have issues here and I don't appreciate you criticizing those who are having issues by stating the game is perfectly fine and in other words, denouncing our abilities to play games... I know you've not come out and completely said that word-for-word but that's the aura I'm getting from you upon reading your posts. :(

I haven't played games since I was 4 or 5 like most of you people, but I still love playing games nonetheless. I understand Coda is attempting to make this game computer/laptop and cellphone friendly (and it would seem that the game works perfectly on a cell phone?) but I don't get on avatar websites with a cell phone. I know iPhones and all that are all such the rage but not everyone can afford such a fancy device, so the game should accommodate those who aren't on cell phones. So I'm sure what those who are making bug reports are probably on computer/laptops (am I right, guys?).

I admit this game is addicting, it really is but I'm having difficulty actually playing it. As well as a few other of my friends and they've played platform games longer than I. I'd love to be able to play the game. I'm no pro. I have difficulty playing Zelda. To the point that sometimes I have to ask my brother to help me with one of the boss levels. So it's not as if I'd complain about not being able to beat or defeat something on a game. Something can be fun even if I cannot get passed a point. I've still collected prizes. Hell, I've gotten up to 3 prizes in that game. Which seems to be the point of it. As far as high score, I couldn't care.

With all that taken care of... Coda, you're doing a remarkable job.

I just played it again after all your changes and I like it. I still can't get passed 275 points. :P
But that's just me being inexperienced and hopefully with enough practice, I can get a higher score! Bwaha!
I like the spacebar to start bit. Not sure if you've taken off the double-tap for the spacebar on gravity but so far it's not messed me up as far as attempting to do a regular jump.
So, in conclusion, as it stands, I would play this game more. The speed is good in the beginning and I like how the speed increases. The game isn't easy for me, but I'm also not asking it to be either.

Coda 11-30-2015 11:16 PM

Actually it's the other way around -- users who primarily access Trisphee through a mobile device generally DON'T have a computer/laptop. We've got a few people who have reported being unable to play the crane game because there aren't any tablet controls. You can get a cheap Android tablet for $99. You can't get a laptop for that price. (You can get a Chromebook for a LITTLE more, but it's basically an Android tablet with a keyboard.)

Salone's not saying the game is perfectly fine in every possible way. Salone is saying that the core mechanics of the game are fine and that I don't need to change fundamental parts of the game in response to user complaints. I fully intend to make adjustments to the controls and the polish of the game in response to feedback -- that's the whole reason the thread is here.

I haven't changed the double-tap at all. It's still just like it's always been. Do note: It's not an air jump. It's double-tapping space bar when you're already in the air. That means three taps to jump and flip gravity. Two jumps if you fall off the edge of a platform and flip gravity.

Illusion 11-30-2015 11:25 PM

My problem with the game on my phone is that the game will confuse jumping with gravity change.

Salone 11-30-2015 11:38 PM

I'm sorry Obsidian, you're a bit right there. I'm not experiencing any of the issues a lot of people are experiencing, so I can't see what's going on for them or how frustrating it's making it (Coda if it helps, I'm playing in Chrome with no kinks or issues).

I was mostly just addressing the game mechanics and the difficulty level of the game. I was baffled that Coda was met with hostility for adding in a 'forgiveness' feature if you died early.

Also, someone mentioned that Kyun should be positioned more towards the center of the screen. If you do this, you have less time to adjust for incoming platforms. It may look better, but I guarantee you that it's going to hurt your score worse than some of the feelings that may have been hurt in this thread. Further back means more time to take in to account incoming platforms. They don't do you any good if they're behind you.

Yes, yes, I'm putting in control options.

Obsidian 11-30-2015 11:44 PM

Ah, my apologies there.

Well, I'm not sure if it were just a fluke or I played after some minor adjustments but the game works fine for me now. I find myself playing the game a little more and more now.

Edit
Oh, yeah, the "high score" still stays at 0 for me, however. I forgot about that.

Edit2
I finally got past 300! XD
But then as I mentally went WOOHOO..... I lost. lol

Coda 11-30-2015 11:47 PM

I lean towards fluke... which isn't good news for me. >.> I don't like flukes. It makes it harder to make a consistent experience for everyone. ^^() Need to figure out how to improve it.

Obsidian 11-30-2015 11:52 PM

Well, I find myself enjoying the game more and more.

All gamers hate flukes! However, some flukes can be quite hilarious. Especially those on GTA. I love watching Youtube videos of those.

Obsidian 12-01-2015 02:59 AM

Woo! Record! i got as far as obtaining the option of 7 different prizes. X] Now I wish this game were live on Trisphee, lol

I haven't been giving my input much, but I do agree with Salone. I don't really understand most of the usability complaints. (Bugs/slowdown, yeah, fair game. That's important to report.) When I first started playing, I struggled with flipping gravity when I wanted to, landing on platforms, and the lot. And with practice, I got better at making the game do what I meant it to. The game is difficult, yes. My highest ever high score is 83. I've collected two prize bubbles ever. I'm terrible at this game. But this isn't supposed to be the crane game, where you get a prize with no effort. This game is different. This game is more about actually playing it. Yes, both games will take Pandora tokens. But this game also has a free play mode, for practice/fun. You don't have to feed it tokens if you prefer the crane game, if you think the game is unfair, or if you're just bad at it like me. Not every game is fun for everybody, and I'm just glad that we're finally getting a new game at all. I will probably stick to crane game for tokens, but I will definitely play the free play mode for fun. Maybe someday I'll hit a score of 100.

Coda 12-03-2015 03:40 PM

Got tips?

I'm going to add a selection of tips on the title screen and the game-over screen. Currently I've written the following:

"The longer you hold the jump button, the higher you go! Use a quick tap for a short hop."
"If you miss a platform, use a gravity flip to try to land on the bottom of a later one!"
"If the game seems choppy or laggy, try switching to low-detail mode in the options."
"Speed up to make longer jumps. Slow down to avoid overshooting."
"Pandora Tokens refill every 24 hours, so play every day for more prizes."
"Having trouble flipping gravity? Press the jump button twice when you're in the air!"
"Want an extra challenge? Try Extreme Mode in the options!"
"The available prize selection changes every hour."
"Try practice mode to improve your skills!"
"If you hold the jump button, you'll bounce as soon as you touch the ground."
"Having trouble flipping gravity? Try switching control modes in the options."

If anyone else has suggestions, post them here!

Also I've uploaded some changes -- high scores work again, and prize orbs include their item icons. There's also an improvement to the game over screen, although I'm not done with it. And then there's also some internal cleanup in preparation for future work.
