@Grimalkin not at all! Just post your list of books read and I will then add you to the master list. Welcome.
I am going to update my list now. |
Ah, I finally finished another book. Now to decide which one to work on next...
|
Grimalkin's Challenge 2017 Read a total of 50 books. (Currently working on Death in the Clouds - Agatha Christie. I adore Poirot.) |
i read a number of books by Karen Marie Moning- i just don't remember which ones. it was many many years ago. =)
|
I adore her works, everything I have read so far has been so well written and I cannot help but read and read, sometimes very late into the wee hours of the morning. |
that sounds like me with Sherrilyn Kenyon. she writes paranormal romance. =)
|
I love her as well! I have a few of her novels. They are packed away at the moment (due to living with 13 people) but I adore her work too! Which books are your favourite? |
which Kenyon books are my favorite? gah, you're making me pick one?!?! LOL
|
Last few weeks for class so I haven't been reading at all! The 2018 Challenge will be out and I'll still be working on 2016. Three challenges at a time then!
I am reading for my uni paper though, but more skimming so probably only getting 60% of the book or so. Currently flipping through Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter by Tom Bissell. |
I think the only way I could actually achieve this years goal is if I counted the manga I've read...but I don't count those...
|
If the goal was fanfiction, I'd already be done!
You could always fashion a challenge for yourself, perhaps pick some topics and try to find a manga to match. Or, make a list of what other people suggest, and try that! Ooh! A thought! A Trisphee Reading Challenge for 2018: each participant adds 1 book (preferably not too long and not too hard to get a hold of) of their choice and everyone reads that list. It might be less of a 'get through the list' challenge, as the list would expand each time a new person joined a figure, but more of a book club thing, perhaps. A thought. ;) |
I don't really read that much manga, tbh, but I think I've read 5 or 6 this year. Not enough to justify making a challenge really.
I do like the book list idea though. Except I'd probably have to buy them to read them... |
Trystan you do not have to pick ONE. Maybe a series that you are incredibly fond of at the moment? |
well, i've always liked the Dark Hunter series. all of 'em. XD

>>Project Gutenberg
Pretty sure that's where my War and Peace is bookmarked from.... |
The library isn't really an option for me. When I'm not at work, it's closed.
I checked project Gutenberg once. Didn't find anything that really appealed to me. I do use paperbackswap.com though, to clear put books I don't want. |
I used to read weekly bedtime stories on my Discord account from Project Gutenberg. It's an amazing resource.
Edit: If you have a smartphone you might download the Amazon Kindle app. They have a lot of free or cheap books on there. Also if you find yourself spending more than ten bucks a month on books you might consider getting a Kindle Unlimited account. I used to have one and really enjoyed it. |
Lol. Currently I spend like... ten dollars a year on books. I generally only buy if trading isn't an option. But I hate e-books tbh. I much prefer the feel and smell of actual books. I will grant that e-books are better for travel, though. Not that I travel. Ever.
|
We just don't have any storage room for books. We have a few vital religious and academic texts that we keep on hand, but we only can fit one bookshelf in our room so we have to be very choosey. My local library is really small and mostly has children's books so I found myself needing to move to an electronic option. I still prefer real books. I will borrow from friends whenever possible but e-books let me have a wider range again.
|
hey every one sorry i havent been able to chat, life is getting complicated >C<
|
it's ok, purple. *hugs*
i love real books, and i love my library. this year i've bought.... hm. two books come to mind off the top of my head (a Supernatural novel, and a Dune novel... neither of which i've read yet). but mostly, my books come from my county library system, which is awesome. if i do read any parts of War and Peace, it'll be my only ebook. don't really like reading electronically. i blame a musical for wanting to read some of War and Peace, actually.... |
I need to stop buying books. I have so many and it stresses me out that I have them and don't have the time to read them. And I read slow. I am trying to use speed reading techniques which still allows for proper comprehension.
I'm reading Hybrids by Robert J. Sawyer, so my avi is, all of a sudden, totally appropriate for where my mind is right now. |

I overall am not fond of electronic reading, but ereaders are great for massive books I don't want to tote around, and for super cheap collections of old work. |

one of the on-line sites i found had W&P at 2882 pages! the reason i picked the Gutenberg Project site is that it displays well on my computer and my phone! |
Hey guys: I won't be hosting a 2018 Reading Challenge, so if anyone wants to start one by all means go ahead. I will join it.
Sorry I've been mostly absent, real life can be a bitch! :( |
i can host it for 2018. can i copy and paste some of your stuff from the first post?
i'll probably post it next month sometime then |
Absolutely,go ahead and copy anything you want.
I am glad you are hosting it next year. |
cool cool. thanks!

(Although Trystan will be a good host of it too, I'm sure.) |
aw, thanks Kaderin.
and moonshadow - please do join the new thread! we do miss you when you're not around! that said: i probably will set up a whole new thread, that way i can have a post that links to everyone's list in either the first or second post, like this thread has. =) |
Totally gonna try to claim the first available post again...
XD And hopefully will do better at reading than I have this year. Might need to lower my goals slightly... Although, if I finish at least 3-4 projects by the end of the month, I should have all of next month to actually read, so I might be able to almost finish my goal. XD |
which will probably be post #4 then. =)
my goal is always the same - try to read more books than i did the year before. and since this year i've read 44 (so far) out of a goal of 32, i did well. =) |
That's pretty impressive! I have read (or will have read by the end of the night) 20 out of 30 books. With 7 others in progress. I don't think I actually made my goal of 24 last year, but I was close. So I though I could manage 30 this year. Bad plan. I might try for 25 next year. And will probably increase by 3-5 each year that I succeed, but drop down to the previous year's goal if I fail.
|
thanks!
and that's with all my crocheting too =) |
That makes it even more impressive. I spent too much time sleeping and being generally exhausted to actually even work on my loom knitting, let alone read. Especially after I picked up my second job. But I don't plan on doing any custom orders or other things with deadlines for at least aa couple years, so I can take my time and pace myself better with my crafts and my reading hopefully.
|
i usually read when i have breakfast at my mon-thurs job - for about an hour or so in the morning. sometimes i'll read during the first part of my lunch, while i'm eating. then i crochet for the rest of lunch. at night after dinner, i'll crochet and play on my laptop and/or watch tv. i also have a stitch-n-bitch i go to thursday nights.
during the weekend, when i'm at my retail job (michael's) they only schedule me for 4 hours, so when i'm done at 1 on friday and saturday, i'll stop at a fast food place for lunch... and i read. sunday i'm done at 6 or 7 or 7:30, so i stop for dinner... and read. then when i get home, i crochet. XD if i'm hooked on the book, sometimes i'll sit at my table and read before moving to my yarn corner (which is also where my laptop is too) i don't read in bed cause i know i'll fall asleep. XD |
I tend to have trouble focusing or getting interested in my loom knitting and reading...and anything except sleeping a lot lately, but I hope to get back into some of my books and crafting soon-ish. I think once the holidays are over and work at both jobs settles down some, it will be easier to get sufficient sleep to actually have energy again.
|
yeah, energy is a good thing. =)
|
I just finished Hybrids by Robert J. Sawyer, the end of the Neanderthal Parallax and I must say I was a bit disappointed in the end.
I am on an excellent clip this year, I've read 64 books already! My challange was 40, so I have surpassed my challenge. |
