I don't really care how long a post is as long as it actually provides me with something to reply to.

Seven paragraphs of personal reflection and flash-back scenes for your character does nothing for mine. D<

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

haha, well it was an introduction. A normal post of mine would give your character something to do.

Azrael 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

I've been getting some of my OCs drawn. Except the only thing I don't like about getting OCs drawn is my OCs are usually exclusive to only one RP... and so I can't use them much x.x'

And yeeeah way too long for me.

Hey rem.

Rem 09-16-2010 05:31 PM

Ventus - YES. People playing their OCs as themselves and mixing their real feelings with the RP causes major major drama. It nearly broke up one of my home threads. I know aaaall about that crap. u_u Ugh.

Alex - Yesssss
I still have to get some of your art :V
I tried! You didn't hold enough auctions, man

edit: Hey Azra!

Alexander Linden 09-16-2010 05:33 PM

Rem - The only way to get my art now is either to RL commission me or on TM. I'm not planning on opening an art shop here (mostly because I work for Trisphee).

I really need the money anyway though. xD So my RL slots are pretty much always open.

XD Same here. Exactly same here.

I almost never put thoughts or parts that have no character interaction unless it's needed. It seems pointless to me since the point of an RP is to interact with another person's character, I always thought. >3<' So rambling on about what yours is thinking, doing, feeling... It does nothing. May as well go off and write by yourself.

Sephiroth 09-16-2010 05:33 PM

Mewp! *perches in Johnny's lap*

Rem 09-16-2010 05:35 PM

johnny - XD HAHA OMG do you hate that too when someone will post like five paragraphs of character development but only give you like ONE actual event/action to try to post upon?
I mean don't get me wrong I love character development.
But our OCs can't sit around ruminating with their inner thoughts for like, five hours..

edit: And I also dislike RPing with people who, in the entirety of their posts, ONLY repeat back to me the actions I have just done with my character. And then maybe .. maybeeee give me like a smile, or an extra hug to go on.
It feels like you're just pulling the RP along all by yourself then.

Ventus 09-16-2010 05:35 PM

Isn't it kinda hard not to draw them. I mean some people can't draw and that's okay, you can describe it too. Well, I think even if your'e not that great it's fun to see people try drawing their characters. I hate when people steal characters. It's okay to say "he looks kinda like this", but it is not okay to just grab a picture, put it in your signature and write "lol my rpc". D: I love it though when some straight 13 year old grabs a guy from a gay porn game. Then you tell them and they are like: "uuaaaaanoooouu!"...

It's a good thing to post what your character is feeling and their emotions at the time as well. It makes your character seem very flat if you don't and it makes it harder for other characters to 'read' yours.

johnny 09-16-2010 05:37 PM

I do put thoughts and personal feelings of the character into the post, because that sort of stuff does give a (good) roleplayer something to work with. If the character's thinking sarcastically while acting nice and pleasant, it tells the other player that their character should be a little suspect of what my character's doing. It gives a little insight into the tone and personality of the character - not so that the other character can know exactly what's going on, but at least so the other player knows that when that nice-and-friendly character pulls out a knife and threatens the other character, it's not completely out of left-field.

I pretty much always draw my own characters, or have a friend draw them for me. xD

Azrael 09-16-2010 05:38 PM

Oh I don't mean not to show /any/ of their inner thoughts, emotions, etc. I just meant not paragraphs upon paragraphs of that. XD I kinda realized what it sounded like after I posted but was too lazy to edit.

And yeah. ._. I'll often use pictures to show like, basic appearance, but that's never /exactly/ my character. Especially since, often, the feel is wrong, or there's little details not quite right, etc...

haha Yeah. Though if you want your character to be mysterious, the other people will end up being suspicious anyway. That's just kind of a normal reaction to someone you don't know well.

Oh, well yeah. I won't do that either. You need to think in the moment, and give the others something to do. That being said, my regular posts aren't as long as my intros. They'll end up being 3-5 paragraphs usually, but sometimes shorter if I feel like I've gotten my point across.

johnny 09-16-2010 05:40 PM

I don't use pictures for my characters unless I take the time to draw them myself, which pretty much never happens.

I figure roleplaying is a writing/reading/imagination medium. If you can't take a description and visualize something, you probably shouldn't be roleplaying. :/
