sounds like that could turn into a really cool novel, Coda!

Coda 03-03-2020 10:34 PM

I mean, yeah, it could, but I'm not going to be the one to write it. That kind of thing unsettles me when I see it as it is; I have no desire whatsoever to put myself in the mindset of someone who's going to set up that kind of situation.

EDIT: To be more specific, the idea of someone knowingly doing something that they know will unconditionally result in their death is profoundly unsettling to me. I can rationalize it in cases where there's no alternative, but it's still unsettling.

It's even more unsettling if it's a situation they're forced into instead of willingly chosen.

trystan830 03-03-2020 11:03 PM

yeah, fair enough. i have trouble writing something because i just can't, so i get that.

Not sure what's making me more cranky, the weather or my back. XP

Warmed up enough lately that snakes are already being spotted. Not cool. Not cool.

percival really hates having bad acne and he does doubt that it's going to fuck off after he's 25.

I feel bad for all the medical professionals out there struggling to buy supplies because of the people panicking about the coronavirus.
Had a woman in at Joann last night buying thin cording so she could make masks because she absolutely cannot buy them anymore.
:c

People need to put less emphasis on masks. They don't do a whole lot to protect you from catching it -- they mostly help protect other people from catching it from you.

Handwashing -- with soap, not with an alcohol-based sanitizer -- and keeping your hands away from your face are the most important things.

Kaderin Triste 03-05-2020 04:00 PM

Yep. I've kept up to date on information. I've also heard that if you absolutely are unable to wash your hands (for example my job at Joann means dealing directly with the potentially sick public, but I can't go wash my hands after every transaction), hand sanitizer is acceptable, but it needs to be at least 60% alcohol.

Coda 03-05-2020 04:23 PM

I know you know, but for the benefit of anyone else reading who might not:

Hand sanitizer is better than nothing, yeah. 90% is better (90% can kill the common cold virus, but no amount of alcohol can do anything about other types of viruses like rabies), but it's also flammable so it's not especially common. Soap does a better job of breaking down the lipid capsule around the virus and water physically transfers the microbes off of your skin and down the drain.

Kaderin Triste 03-05-2020 06:16 PM

Out of curiosity, google searched for 90% alcohol hand sanitizer and one of the first results was an article about how there are hand sanitizer shortages as well and how you can make your own.
XD

Coda 03-05-2020 06:23 PM

I just checked the hand sanitizer I have here around the house and it looks like Purell brand is 70%.

Kaderin Triste 03-05-2020 06:25 PM

Yeah, the generic hand sanitizer they have at the museum is also 70%. And I think the bath & bodyworks ones I was looking at last night (because I was comparing stuff and they smell nice and don't dry my hands out as much) are only 66%.
