The site isn't dead you just have to find the place to post, as for the game, no it won't the reason for the event being like this is to make the users feel the struggle for food and water. The game will have chances to give currency but usually won't.

I guess I understand it being difficult to earn food/water, which makes it more interesting and actually...I dunno..personal? Like you said, struggling to earn them.
