What about.... :awesomes: ! :D

Arikana 12-10-2012 04:18 PM

I don't really care as long as my text emoticons won't be hindered with these image emoticons. XP

*hugs my text emoticons* >.>

Lucid: 12-10-2012 04:23 PM

That's the plan. Sometimes I just need a plain ol' :D to express my feelings.
Hot tip: using BB tags in the middle of your emote, for example, :[I][ /I]D, will cancel the image emote. I did that a lot before we disabled the old ugly image emotes.

Arikana 12-10-2012 04:28 PM

Eh, I use text emoticons all the time. I generally dislike image emoticons. XD
And I already knew that...trick...since I have to use it on other forums. >.> But thank goodness those will still be available here even after the winning emoticons are uploaded into the system.

Lucid: 12-10-2012 04:40 PM

I'm pretty sure it won't be necessary to use the trick, since most of us agree that we don't want to override text emotes. But it's good to know just in case. >.>

Arikana 12-10-2012 04:43 PM

Yeah, well other forums don't know that. So it's good that Tris at least knows.

*hugs my text emoticons once more* <3

Demonskid 12-10-2012 05:13 PM

yea every emote even the :D ones will be like :s:D: = http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/...yunexcited.gif that way nothing will interfere with just regular :D

Arikana 12-10-2012 05:34 PM

Why not cut out either the first and last colons or the middle and last colons for those ones so there's less to type for users who wish to use them. So instead of ':s:D', it'd be either 's:D' or ':sD' for the example you posted in your previous post.

Coda 12-10-2012 05:39 PM

Answer: For consistency. All emotes should start and end with matching characters (and it seems :: is the popular choice although I would have chosen [] or {} myself) in part to avoid accidentally matching real text, we've elected to use a prefix system for choosing an emote set, and then ":D" is the name of the emote.

That said, I would have probably leaned toward ":sgrin:" than ":s:D:". I'm not particularly worried about how long it is to type because I assume most users are going to end up clicking in the emoticon palette for all but the most common choices.

Demonskid 12-10-2012 05:44 PM

that one is more of a :sexcited: sinopa excited then a grin.. tho.. grin would be less funny to type x3

Arikana 12-10-2012 06:23 PM

*shrugs* Ah, I see. Okay, whatever. S'all fine with me.

Ultima 12-10-2012 07:30 PM

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to write for some of them =/
Like, is it better to have :8D: or :excited: ? ::): or  ?
Idk, I just put whatever, you can fix them up if you guys want x.x
