One of the conventions I was wanting to sell comics and art at rejected my submission for a table. For stupid as *bleep* reasons.

From the e-mail:

Quote:

--The subjects viewed on your submitted website does not pertain to the convention or theme for this year

--There were multiple submissions with the same items and from the submission pool one was chosen over yours

--The [Convention] vendors committee viewed your website submission but felt your website was not as complete as it could have been
Yes, my DevArt page is probably not the best site to showcase what my wares are, but darnit, at the time of submission, it was all I had. the other two reasons are just *bleeping* stupid *bleeping* reasons.

Tam I am 03-01-2015 09:25 PM

I think they're very lame reasons, too.

ml1201 03-01-2015 09:59 PM

.-.
Those are stupid reasons to be completely honest, just because they don't pertain to the theme of the con doesn't mean there won't be people interested. Heck, there's a guy that comes every year to the con I go to selling anime and its a gaming convention! Yes, there is an anime panel but its nothing compared to the rest of the con, and we also get people selling art, sculptures and jewelery which by the way also don't pertain to the con. :/

Do you live on the East coast or near it by any chance? You will probably be better off going to the con I go to to try and sell your stuff.

:(
While I understand the concept that conventions have quotas (and, along with being well known/familiar/good-ol' boy system) that make it harder to be accepted if you are coming into the field...they are sucky reasons.

You're still great though, Den. Don't let it get you down. :)

...As a question...anyone know any good/strong romance works? (Sort of need to at least look a little through them for examples of how to write decent romance...)

ml1201 03-02-2015 07:45 PM

Well, I read a lot of mature books that are romances, but they have the characters fall in love almost instantly, like only a few days. If you want something that's a longer time span I would suggest looking at the mangas Beast Master and Prince's Cactus because those do occur over the span of a few months.

Lawtan 03-02-2015 11:04 PM

Yeah...romance in fantasy is usually forced due to the situation (war, danger, etc). And I can imagine a focus on Romeo/Juliette romance...
:P

ml1201 03-02-2015 11:50 PM

Well, actually not in the ones I normally read. XD With the ones I suggested, they both take their time, they develop feelings for one another, and its a bit more realistic then just being 'soul mates' kind of thing. x'D That's the type of romances I normally read. x'D With the exception of one that time line wise took several years and just did some time skips. ^^;

Are you talking romance, or R rated stuff? Because for something that is romantic about two people getting together, I'd recommend the Book of Ruth. Bleak House is also pretty nice. Well, the courting of the young spinster. There's pretty sad stuff in the book otherwise.

(Was more what I was looking for :D)
I'll look into them.

I also like a novel called The Book of Joan. Lots of snark. But a romantic story anyway.

Den 03-04-2015 01:49 AM

Law, my story actually has a minor background romance... one that's slowly developed over a very long period of time... /shameless plug

Lawtan 03-04-2015 12:47 PM

*Takes plug* Roger that.

So, parents recommended Marion Zimmer Bradley, the Foundation Trilogy, The Xanth trilogy, and Mercedes Lackey; I know the Crosspointe Series, the cartoon Avatar: TLA, and the Anime "Spice and Wolf"; ml1201 recommended Beast Master and Prince's Cactus; Tam recommended Book of Ruth, Bleak House, and Book of Joan, and AutobotDen's comic. That should be good to study :D

Also, this is fun from 2006
