*points to Az*

It is the shortened form of のです -> んです and is used when we answer a question/explain something in casual form.

"Doko e iku no?"

"Kooen e ikun da/desu."

Azrael 05-16-2011 09:54 PM

OMG I GOT IT? LoL

So my Japanese exam was fail. I think I passed just fine, actually I think as long as you understood what she was asking and could answer in some way, she counted it as correct. >_>

I always get tripped up between "koukou" and "koko" when talking ;-; so that happened, but whatever.

Ashurato 05-16-2011 09:59 PM

Yep, you got it.

And there's honestly only so much studying at school can help you. Actual repeated practice (and imitation) is really the best way to learn languages, I believe.

Azrael 05-16-2011 10:15 PM

I know. School helps you with the basics, gives you somewhere to start, but only real immersion can /teach/ you.

shinkamalei 05-18-2011 03:07 AM

See that's kind of the impression I got from my teacher but she has met with teachers all over the state before at a convention and they all say that is one of the hardest things to explain about the languages.

I also know the のです. She briefly explained that it was the shortened form of it.

But thank you Az and ash.
I think I get it a little better.
If I end of up using it wrong, I will be told so by my friends. ^^

Azrael 05-18-2011 09:45 PM

SWEET, JAPANESE FINAL IS OVEEEER

Azrael 05-19-2011 02:20 AM

Ugh I am thankful to have this one friend of mine. She got accepted to a few schools in Japan and she's giving me some of the information to go through the process. I don't need to for a while, still, but I'm still happy that I don't have to start from scratch.

Ashurato 05-19-2011 02:23 AM

It's good for your to start researching it now. That way, you know exactly what you'll be getting into when you go.

Azrael 05-19-2011 02:29 AM

~nod~ Yeah. I don't plan to for another two years at /least/. Gotta finish my associates >3<' But after that... I dunno if I wanna go to my university here and take just a year in japan or if I wanna just go right to Japan.

shinkamalei 05-19-2011 11:37 AM

@az:
UGH!!
I STILL HAVE LIKE 3 WEEKSSSSSSSSS!!!!

and another UGH!
I'm going for next year april/oct.
and im starting from scratch and its HELL!
i have a lot of websites im going to to find help and funding and schools and whatnot.
Right now I need to get money and funds secured then apply.
BUT if I go through my CC's program which sadly is only for one quarter its about 7k and the programs that I would do are about double that for a year or 2.
so... i dont think imma do that BUT if i did it would mean I would be able to get FAFSA applied to it.
so idk.
i think imma just hold onto my fafsa that i get in fall and winter and try to do a sister-school private one.
cause those allow you to keep your fafsa, get credit, go to the sister city and take classes, etc etc

Azrael 05-19-2011 07:07 PM

Good luck, Shink! <3

Yesterday a girl in my Japanese class said "雨をふとています”
XD We teased her cause it was supposed to just be "ふって”

So she was saying that the rain is fat, rather than it is raining.

Ashurato 05-19-2011 10:13 PM

That is the first I have ever heard of rain being fat. XD Awesome.

shinkamalei 05-19-2011 11:41 PM

I hate to say this...
but if this was facebook I would like that xDDD

Azrael 05-20-2011 12:31 AM

XD she just got the verbs mixed up. I thought it was hilarious.

A group of three Japanese girls were sitting across from me earlier while I was waiting for class, and I /so/ wanted to say something but I didn't know what/didn't want to butt in. ;-;

8bit 05-20-2011 12:50 AM

Lucid: 05-20-2011 01:06 AM

Azrael 05-20-2011 03:02 PM

DK, if you have one or can afford it, a small whiteboard will be your BEST study friend when learning to write characters.

I think its hilarious as well.

and then you wait til they look around and approach and say "ummm... hi. I know you don't know me but I couldn't help but notice you are speaking japanese. 日本から着ましたか?" They most likely will respond in japanese fast but you can always say "please speak more slowly" or "i am just learning japanese, I'm not good yet" or "I'm sorry I do not speak much japanese"

I wish i could afford one but writing them down in an old notebook that never gets any use anymore is good :3

Azrael 05-21-2011 01:32 AM

XD that works. But if you can afford one at any point you really should invest in one, they're good for math, too XD

Lauv Keiko 05-21-2011 01:34 AM
