you use different graduations for colors, you don't shade the shape you pat down then make a shape with the tool and you use layers and you use several tools that are not part of pixeling

Pixeling can be done with layers and stuff, too.
I'm of the opinion that going from pixeling to tool work is significantly easier than the other way around, because pixeling takes a keener eye. It's a tough transition either way, but. |
XD and I dont do either.
I try pixeling with my little paint.net program the clothing turns out too stiff. As for tooling, I tried that with Gimp hurt my hand since it would not blend correctly. |

I do my arty things in gimp, and my Tris things in photoshop. xD gimp seems to baffle most artists I know...
I have a certain fondness for the ms kind of art. I reeeally need more of it. |
