We don't have Barnes and Noble up here. We have Indigo, which is pretty much my favourite store ever. It started life as Chapters and eventually swallowed every other bookstore chain in existence so unless you're at a used book store, or a Book Warehouse (the only other store chain I can think of that isn't Indigo, unless Black Bond is still alive) then you're buying from them.
I wonder if Duthies is still alive? EDIT: Nope. |
WE used to have a Borders, which was huge, and Barnes and Noble, now its just Barnes and Noble. I love the used section. I rarely buy a new book, love used bookstores.
|
This is where I go now for used books. Speaking of which, I should see if they have a copy of Hellbound Heart around. Personally, I have never seen Nietzsche with his eyes open. He's usually been curled up on one of the chairs at the front window, asleep.
|
At the book sale today I got Sally Ride (biography) and an old paperback copy of Gone With the Wind. Paid $1 for both.
|
I'm volunteering for the Reading Link Challenge again this year through my university, so I'll have a third book on my list once I get a copy of it. It's a secret though. That's important!
|
I've spent a lot of time this summer reading, I'm just happier when I'm reading, hard to explain.
|
Probably don't need to explain.
|
you don't need to explain to a group of readers, Moonshadow. =D
|
Lol. Yeah...definitely don't need to explain to this group.
XD |
Thank you guys! my real life friends make me feel weird about how much I read.
|
Eh. Friends like that can kind of be a pain at times.
XD Never feel weird about reading. |

So....I may have started reading a seventh book last night...
XD |
I'd say something but I've done that before.
|
No! Kad! no! I am down to just two books. The Key and Raise Your Vibration. I finished one last night, so I am proud I am down to two only!!!
-don't feel weird about reading anymore <3 - |
I couldn't help it! All the books I was working on were in the bedroom, but I was in the living room!
And I probably wouldn't have started reading it if it hadn't sounded actually really interesting, considering the time period it was from! For the record, it's Jane Eyre, which other than the title and author, I actually knew nothing about. On the plus side, despite what my reading list says (because I don't update it every day) I am getting close to finishing another book. |
I remember reading Jane Eyre when I was much younger.
I read it recently and had major issues with the character Mr. Rochester. |
I haven't quite gotten to his character yet, but possibly will this weekend since I will have a decent amount of time between work shifts tomorrow to read. Either that or work on a craft project. Ehatever I decide to pack with me.
XP All I can say currently is that I so far like it although I am a little disappointed with how the beginning starts. Like, I understand that Jane was orphaned at a young age, but starting at kind of at the end of her time with her aunt and cousins with no mention of past events except to quickly gloss over them in explanations to people as necessary bothers me a little. Her youth gets fairly well skipped. But, at the same time that isn't the intended focus of the story I suppose, so it doesn't make sense to ramble on too long about it. Lol. On a positive note, I only need to finish 6 books this month to be back on pace. |
I've seen bits and pieces of one of the films; enough to say I doubt I'm going to read the book, but there are parts I found interesting, which (I think) focus around Mr. Rochester.
|
Even though its late into 2017 i want to try this... only i've read all the books i own... except for some i have on my Kobo e- reader.... woudl reading the ones i have on my e-reader count in this?? :p-glance:
|
I think each of us just made our own list. I'm waaaaay behind in my lists (still working on my 2016 list.)
|
@PurpleBox dude it doesn't matter when you start, what your goal is or what you read. E-books are books too just in a different format! And it doesn't even have to be books you're reading!

E-books totally count, yes! You could also re-read books if you want. |
Re-reading a book is on my list! Haven't decided which, but I've still got to work through my purchased guys.
|
I re-read books all the time. At least 1 and possibly 2 of the books on my list are re-reads. (I have forgotten what I have for finished books currently.)
|
thats good to know!!! and a bit of a relief lol, im a book worm i mostly have just one or two genre's of books, sci fi and fantasy so i just need to pick one and there i go ^w^ I'll get my list up tomorrow, its way past midnight here and im about to pass out xP
|
1:30am right now, and I suppose I should make more attempts to go to bed and actually try to be asleep before 4am rolls around. I'm not so good at that these days.
But, a couple days ago it was 6am so I am doing better! |
PurpleBox's Reading List for 2017 I think I'll start small with 10 books :) |
@Purple Box: Hi, I am glad you are joining us. I will put you on the list of participants and link to this page.
|
^^ im glad that there is a thread like this. It will give me encouragement to get the reading done XD
|
That's in good part why I'm here, but it's also fun to just talk about books and such. I should read a little more today. I was making good progress on my fantasy novel but alas, I'm sucked back into online fanfiction and computer games again.
|
I think this thread is a great idea. My friend from Ernya started one there, and that is where I first starting posting when I joined Ernya. We will definitely do one in 2018!
|
Don't forget the post quoting trick where you can click the post number to link directly to the post! I find it handier, since I need to open three windows to get to my old post.
I don't suppose you could edit mine into the post link thread, Moonshadow? I got it here: Quiet Man Cometh Quoting this post will bring up the link details and then it's easy to copy/paste. |
@Quiet Man done as you requested :)
I am not going to do the rest though. But for next year if we do this again it might be easier to do it the way you indicated. Thanks. |
I personally find it easier, but yes, updating threads can be a pain, thus I went and got the link myself. ;)
I have a chance to sit and read but I'm (trying) to draw instead. I guess it's a fair trade for now. |
I just started reading The Boy Who Died and Came Back by Robert Moss.
OMG! that book is a total trip! Very interesting. I finally finished all the 6 books I was reading, now I am only reading that one, and my DSP Daily Spiritual Practice book. |
one thing i like about the school stories for EAH they are not all that big and can be finished in a few hours... still very good books.
|
i finished another book - the Time Machine! then again, it was a very thin book. it's the first time i've read it, believe it or not.
this puts my count at 28 books read! woot!! |
Wow. That's way beyond me right now, Tryst.
