We don't have Barnes and Noble up here. We have Indigo, which is pretty much my favourite store ever. It started life as Chapters and eventually swallowed every other bookstore chain in existence so unless you're at a used book store, or a Book Warehouse (the only other store chain I can think of that isn't Indigo, unless Black Bond is still alive) then you're buying from them.

I wonder if Duthies is still alive?
EDIT: Nope.

Moonshadow 08-01-2017 12:04 AM

WE used to have a Borders, which was huge, and Barnes and Noble, now its just Barnes and Noble. I love the used section. I rarely buy a new book, love used bookstores.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-01-2017 04:01 AM

This is where I go now for used books. Speaking of which, I should see if they have a copy of Hellbound Heart around. Personally, I have never seen Nietzsche with his eyes open. He's usually been curled up on one of the chairs at the front window, asleep.

Moonshadow 08-01-2017 11:02 PM

At the book sale today I got Sally Ride (biography) and an old paperback copy of Gone With the Wind. Paid $1 for both.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-01-2017 11:12 PM

I'm volunteering for the Reading Link Challenge again this year through my university, so I'll have a third book on my list once I get a copy of it. It's a secret though. That's important!

Moonshadow 08-01-2017 11:42 PM

I've spent a lot of time this summer reading, I'm just happier when I'm reading, hard to explain.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-01-2017 11:48 PM

Probably don't need to explain.

trystan830 08-02-2017 12:03 AM

you don't need to explain to a group of readers, Moonshadow. =D

Kaderin Triste 08-02-2017 01:15 AM

Lol. Yeah...definitely don't need to explain to this group.
XD

Moonshadow 08-02-2017 11:02 PM

Thank you guys! my real life friends make me feel weird about how much I read.

Kaderin Triste 08-03-2017 03:51 AM

Eh. Friends like that can kind of be a pain at times.
XD
Never feel weird about reading.

THIS

Kaderin Triste 08-04-2017 03:23 PM

So....I may have started reading a seventh book last night...
XD

Quiet Man Cometh 08-04-2017 08:13 PM

I'd say something but I've done that before.

Moonshadow 08-04-2017 10:49 PM

No! Kad! no! I am down to just two books. The Key and Raise Your Vibration. I finished one last night, so I am proud I am down to two only!!!

-don't feel weird about reading anymore <3 -

Kaderin Triste 08-04-2017 11:42 PM

I couldn't help it! All the books I was working on were in the bedroom, but I was in the living room!
And I probably wouldn't have started reading it if it hadn't sounded actually really interesting, considering the time period it was from!
For the record, it's Jane Eyre, which other than the title and author, I actually knew nothing about.
On the plus side, despite what my reading list says (because I don't update it every day) I am getting close to finishing another book.

Moonshadow 08-05-2017 12:15 AM

I remember reading Jane Eyre when I was much younger.
I read it recently and had major issues with the character Mr. Rochester.

Kaderin Triste 08-05-2017 02:08 AM

I haven't quite gotten to his character yet, but possibly will this weekend since I will have a decent amount of time between work shifts tomorrow to read. Either that or work on a craft project. Ehatever I decide to pack with me.
XP

All I can say currently is that I so far like it although I am a little disappointed with how the beginning starts. Like, I understand that Jane was orphaned at a young age, but starting at kind of at the end of her time with her aunt and cousins with no mention of past events except to quickly gloss over them in explanations to people as necessary bothers me a little. Her youth gets fairly well skipped. But, at the same time that isn't the intended focus of the story I suppose, so it doesn't make sense to ramble on too long about it.

Lol. On a positive note, I only need to finish 6 books this month to be back on pace.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-05-2017 02:24 AM

I've seen bits and pieces of one of the films; enough to say I doubt I'm going to read the book, but there are parts I found interesting, which (I think) focus around Mr. Rochester.

PurpleBox 08-05-2017 02:32 AM

Even though its late into 2017 i want to try this... only i've read all the books i own... except for some i have on my Kobo e- reader.... woudl reading the ones i have on my e-reader count in this?? :p-glance:

Quiet Man Cometh 08-05-2017 02:36 AM

I think each of us just made our own list. I'm waaaaay behind in my lists (still working on my 2016 list.)

daikokunyo 08-05-2017 02:41 AM

@PurpleBox dude it doesn't matter when you start, what your goal is or what you read. E-books are books too just in a different format! And it doesn't even have to be books you're reading!

Quote:

The Goal:

The goal can be anything you want: 1 book in 2017, 10 books in 2017, 25 books in 2017, 50 books in 2017, 100 books in 2017, reading a certain series in 2017, reading a certain number of pages in 2017, reading the same book 50 times in 2017, etc. Your goal is whatever you want and whatever is challenging yet still fun for you. It's a personal challenge, not a contest. So you set your goal and go at your own pace.

The Books:

You can count or not count any books you want. If you want to count audio books, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count manga, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count magazines, then do it. If not, then don't. If you want to count books for school, then do it. If not, then don't. It's all up to you!

The Rules:

1. Follow Trisphee's rules.

2. Don't make fun of anyone for having a different goal than you. We all have different obligations, and priorities, and free time, etc, so all of our reading goals are going to be different, and that's ok. One person might easily finish a 500 page book in a few days, while someone else might struggle to finish 500 pages in a few months, and that's ok. We're not racing, rushing, or competing. We're motivating, encouraging, and having fun.

3. If you want to talk about something that happened in a book, put it in a spoiler.

Who Can Join:
Anyone! Just jump in say what your goal is!

Deadline for joining:
Feel free to join in any time before 2018!

Haha...welcome!
E-books totally count, yes!
You could also re-read books if you want.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-05-2017 02:54 AM

Re-reading a book is on my list! Haven't decided which, but I've still got to work through my purchased guys.

Kaderin Triste 08-05-2017 02:58 AM

I re-read books all the time. At least 1 and possibly 2 of the books on my list are re-reads. (I have forgotten what I have for finished books currently.)

PurpleBox 08-05-2017 03:11 AM

thats good to know!!! and a bit of a relief lol, im a book worm i mostly have just one or two genre's of books, sci fi and fantasy so i just need to pick one and there i go ^w^ I'll get my list up tomorrow, its way past midnight here and im about to pass out xP

Quiet Man Cometh 08-05-2017 04:30 AM

1:30am right now, and I suppose I should make more attempts to go to bed and actually try to be asleep before 4am rolls around. I'm not so good at that these days.

But, a couple days ago it was 6am so I am doing better!

PurpleBox 08-05-2017 06:07 PM

PurpleBox's Reading List for 2017
I think I'll start small with 10 books :)

Moonshadow 08-05-2017 11:16 PM

@Purple Box: Hi, I am glad you are joining us. I will put you on the list of participants and link to this page.

PurpleBox 08-05-2017 11:37 PM

^^ im glad that there is a thread like this. It will give me encouragement to get the reading done XD

Quiet Man Cometh 08-05-2017 11:42 PM

That's in good part why I'm here, but it's also fun to just talk about books and such. I should read a little more today. I was making good progress on my fantasy novel but alas, I'm sucked back into online fanfiction and computer games again.

Moonshadow 08-06-2017 12:56 AM

I think this thread is a great idea. My friend from Ernya started one there, and that is where I first starting posting when I joined Ernya. We will definitely do one in 2018!

Quiet Man Cometh 08-06-2017 05:17 AM

Don't forget the post quoting trick where you can click the post number to link directly to the post! I find it handier, since I need to open three windows to get to my old post.

I don't suppose you could edit mine into the post link thread, Moonshadow? I got it here:

Quiet Man Cometh

Quoting this post will bring up the link details and then it's easy to copy/paste.

Moonshadow 08-06-2017 10:35 PM

@Quiet Man done as you requested :)
I am not going to do the rest though. But for next year if we do this again it might be easier to do it the way you indicated. Thanks.

Quiet Man Cometh 08-06-2017 10:45 PM

I personally find it easier, but yes, updating threads can be a pain, thus I went and got the link myself. ;)

I have a chance to sit and read but I'm (trying) to draw instead. I guess it's a fair trade for now.

Moonshadow 08-06-2017 10:49 PM

I just started reading The Boy Who Died and Came Back by Robert Moss.
OMG! that book is a total trip! Very interesting.
I finally finished all the 6 books I was reading, now I am only reading that one, and my DSP Daily Spiritual Practice book.

PurpleBox 08-07-2017 09:32 PM

one thing i like about the school stories for EAH they are not all that big and can be finished in a few hours... still very good books.

trystan830 08-07-2017 09:37 PM

i finished another book - the Time Machine! then again, it was a very thin book. it's the first time i've read it, believe it or not.

this puts my count at 28 books read! woot!!

Quiet Man Cometh 08-07-2017 10:04 PM

Wow. That's way beyond me right now, Tryst.

What is EAH? Never heard of it.

Ever After High. Its both a doll line from Mattel and a web toon series and a series on Netflix. Shannon Hale is the original creator...another author wrote the School Stories with permission and they are good books.

Its basically a series about a high school for the teenage sons and daughters of fairy tale characters... it IS linked to Monster high in some way.
