changing Ravenclaw colors - i know this! the short answer is when certain colors are paired with other colors, your eyes play tricks on you, and it's like an optical illusion - like that dress where some people saw black and blue and others insisted it was white and gold. apparently, in movies, the same kind of thing happens. and there was also something about the bronze from Ravenclaw appearing the same as the black from Hufflepuff.

so, yeah.

also Jurassic Park wasn't all that awful. XD

Kaderin Triste 07-11-2017 10:52 PM

Ah. I guess that makes sense. Still was disappointed to see the color change.

And compared to the books, the Jurassic Park movies are pretty awful. Mainly the second one where they changed and/or left out a good 50-60% of the book.
But to watch just for the sake of watching, and not for comparison, they're good.

trystan830 07-11-2017 11:01 PM

actually, i like the blue and silver myself. XD

well, there is that. i guess it helps that after long enough time i don't remember the book or the movie. XD

Kaderin Triste 07-11-2017 11:03 PM

Yeah, I have the first 3 Jurassic Park movies and the second book. So I'm pretty good at catching the changes and missing parts in the second one.

trystan830 07-11-2017 11:12 PM

yeah, i don't own any XD

Moonshadow 07-11-2017 11:55 PM

Those are good movies. I only saw the first three.
I read the first two books. I thought they were great.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-12-2017 01:31 AM

I didn't realize there was more than one book.

trystan830 07-12-2017 10:21 AM

a google search told me there's only two books: Jurassic Park and The Lost World.

i read both, and only saw the movies of the same names. i haven't seen any more movies though.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-12-2017 09:43 PM

Jurassic World was pretty fun, once the film decided to make up it's mind about what sort of movie it wanted to be. Lots of nods to the first movie as well. I suppose I could consider reading Jurassic Park.

Moonshadow 07-12-2017 10:32 PM

There are four Jurassic Park Movies. I only saw the first two.
Here is a list of them.

daikokunyo 07-18-2017 04:13 AM

I haven't seen a single Jurassic Park movie :p-glance:

trystan830 07-18-2017 11:55 AM

and moving on , i'm on book three (out of three) of the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series

Kaderin Triste 07-18-2017 06:12 PM

Ugh. I am so not finishing my reading list. Too much crafting to do (to build stock for a craft show), plus picking up on a second job is really cutting into my free time.

trystan830 07-18-2017 08:32 PM

i'm actually doing quite well... if i read more than crochet. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 07-18-2017 10:41 PM

I actually read a bit today, while I am lying on the couch and recovering from arduous physical labour! Read from an actually book and not internet fanfiction via iphone! Go me!

I shall finish this book one of these months, really.

Really!

daikokunyo 07-19-2017 08:07 AM

My goal is to finish The Communist Manifesto today. It's homework, and I hate homework on my conscience.

By the way, Quiet, I went and posted a second time in the 101 movies list :s-smile:

Moonshadow 07-19-2017 09:08 PM

I am doing quite well this year on my reading. I just finished Kristin Lavransdatter (1,124 pages) it was very good. Kept my interest for 90% of it, which is amazing for a book that size.

@Kad, are you making your dragons? They are pretty cute and I'm sure they will sell well at craft shows.

OMG somebody posted in one of my 101 threads! Huzzah! Go post in the book one, too! :D

The Communist Manifesto was on my "to read" list for a while, because I decided I wanted to read Mein Kampf at some point and that was going to be my counter-balance. Is it frighteningly massive?

Moonshadow 07-20-2017 10:37 PM

I've read Mein Kampf. I could not tell you anything about it, because I remember nothing about it. I remember thinking wow! It was quite a commitment.

Kaderin Triste 07-24-2017 08:09 PM

Moon: I haven't been, but I do have a few that I need to finish. Mainly I have been working on some of my chain and scalemaille projects, a mitered scarf, and my mermaid blanket.
I do have a pig that I need to finish still (needs eyes and a tail) but that's pretty much all I have done on stuffed animals in the last couple of months.

I have a sort of To Do list on my computer of things I wanted to get made this month, and really the stuffed animals don't actually take that long, I just get lazy. But my goal is to make 2 stuffed animals, finish 2 partially made scarves, and finish my mermaid blanket (which probably won't happen just because I've had to wait for yarn orders twice this month).
And yes, the dragons do sell really well at craft fairs, I made around $100 off of them at the only craft show I did last year. I will be doing that one again, but plan on having a few other animals made also. So far I can make dragons, foxes, pigs, and sharks and I would like to learn either the sheep or the alpaca pattern and get a couple of those made up also. So I have a lot of crafting to do between now and early November. Plus I picked up a second job recently, which will cut into my free time some.

Did get a couple of chapters read in a book (might try to finish it tonight if I can get a few other things taken care of in time). But I have decided that I am not allowed to pick up any more books to read until I have finished at least 2 more and I am only allowed to pick up one of the books that is on my list as a book I want to read this year.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-25-2017 04:48 AM

I've currently limited myself to 2 books at a time, and only one genre book at a time, though we'll see how long that lasts once I get through Memories of Ice. I'm also not allowed to buy any more books until I can't get them from the library. Sadly, The Hellbound Heart is not available at my library and the book is too pricey at Indigo for me to justify buying. Bah! No luck at the used book store lately, either. Though, I could ask over facebook again. They were helpful finding me a copy of The Witcher.

Moonshadow 07-25-2017 10:51 PM

@Kad: I find at craft sales that some people tend to price their stuff too expensive and it doesn't sell. Sounds like you have reasonable prices. I know crafting takes a long time and can be a thankless task, I make pendants and sell them at my friend's store, Imake them quick, and as cheaply as possible and charge only $12 and they fly out! Other jewelry in her store go for as much as $100. I've made $200 in the last few months, which I consider not bad.

@Quiet I am currently reading 4 books! That is way too much. i just get distracted and becoming interested in a topic, then I start that book! and on and on.

Kaderin Triste 07-26-2017 12:39 AM

@Quiet: Yeah...I have 3 books in progress currently plus like 20 more I want to start reading.

@Moon: Yeah, I charge between $15 and $25 depending on the size of the stuffed animal.
One of my friends keeps telling me I should raise my prices by $5, but I have already learned that what people say an item is worth is rarely the same as the amount they are willing to pay for it.
That's awesome! I haven't gotten my Etsy up with items yet, but I'm sure that when I do, it'll be fairly successful.

trystan830 07-26-2017 10:44 AM

so.... i got another book from the library! yaay! ok, i got two, but one's a two-week book.... and the three-week book is a skinny little paperback. so, i started with the two-week book - The Turn by Kim Harrison - which is the prequel to her Hollows series with Rachel Morgan. we'll see how it goes. =)

also, i charge $25 for my base dolls that i crochet - more if there are to be additional layers or alterations.

Kaderin Triste 07-26-2017 06:24 PM

Trystan....how much would you charge for another dragon like the one you showed (I think in the hobby hangout) a while back?
Just curious because I really loved the style of it and there are currently no loom knit patterns for a dragon like that so I can't really make one for myself...
(Er...a feel free to pm me about it so as to keep this thread on topic.... XD)

Also, I have been slowly reading a book! I planned on finishing it a few nights ago, but keep getting tired a chapter or two in. Might have it finished by friday.
Still have a ton I need to read though in order to catch up on my reading list and get it to where I should be at this point. XD

trystan830 07-26-2017 06:41 PM

I sent you a pm, kaderin

Moonshadow 07-26-2017 11:59 PM

I was just thinking today that I am overwhelmed with reading 4 books at the same time, and I keep buying books. I've been sorting through my books and have gotten rid of about 10 of them.

Reading has become for me a way to just gather knowledge, I want to enjoy reading, so I need to reassess my reading challenge. I'm on a pretty good pace with my list I need to update it

Kaderin Triste 07-27-2017 12:19 AM

I'm at 13/30 books finished and I really need to be at 17-18 by the end of the month to be on pace.

But...since I just found out today that the craft show I normally do in November was cancelled (permanently), I really am not in a rush to work on stuffed animals anymore.
I mean, once I get a little photograph studio thing, a camera, and a tripod I will get some more made up to go in my Etsy, but it will probably be a while before I can get all that stuff so...yeah.
Time to do more reading.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-27-2017 12:31 AM

I've been making decent progress with my book lately. I've been strolling around playing Pokemon Go! but I might bring my book with me on my next excursion to the park and sit down by the lake to read.

On the craft thing, just curious. Do you guys just make and sell things personally or do you make a company to sell them through? My sister made a company for her soap a while back so was wondering. My health is making getting work a bit of an issue so I've been thinking about trying for some extra cash just through craft or art selling.

Moonshadow 07-27-2017 12:36 AM

I just sell my stuff personally, I don't have a company, I just sell what Imake and I don't sell much. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to doing stuff, I would rather just sit on my ass and read.

Kaderin Triste 07-27-2017 02:11 AM

Quiet: I don't actually sell anything currently. But usually it is sold by me, personally. Not sure what you'd classify Etsy as, but I have used that and will again. But no sales through there just uet. I do have a relative who is offering to put me in contact with a company out in I think she said Portland, that I could do pet toys through. (Basically just my stuffed animals with squeakers and catnip in them.)

Quiet Man Cometh 07-27-2017 04:20 AM

It's more me wondering how I would wrangle something like taxes if I actually were to make any real money. Not sure what I'd do though. I guess I could just make a handful of things and stick them on a friend's table or try a market and see what gets attention.

Kaderin Triste 07-27-2017 05:42 AM

I forget the exact amount, but I think it'd something like if you make more than $200 per year you're supposed to report it and pay taxes or something...but I imagine that's mostly relevant with online sales ot sales using credit cards. (Probably technically also cash, buuut....
>.>

Moonshadow 07-27-2017 11:37 AM

I think we already pay way too many taxes, so if there is no record of the sale, then... -wink-

Kaderin Triste 07-28-2017 02:30 AM

Yep. Can't prove the transaction, can't tax it.
XD

daikokunyo 07-30-2017 12:54 PM

@Quiet The Communist Manifesto isn't much work at all. It's not bulky, it's short actually, and it does require thought and concentration, but it didn't take me very long.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-31-2017 11:20 PM

Two chapter left in my book! Although those two chapters are still close to 200 pages, plus a very short epilogue.

Moonshadow 07-31-2017 11:23 PM

I realize that this month I am reading 6 books at a time. I thought it was 5, but its 6. Remind me never to do that again. I finished one (The Adventures of Mabel), am really working hard at finishing the others. Yesterday I went to Barnes and Noble and got $30 worth of used books! More books to read.

Tomorrow is the $3 a bag library sale. I think I'm going to go. Do I need to? probably not!

Kaderin Triste 07-31-2017 11:30 PM

If it makes you feel any better, I also am reading 6 books currently.
But I am working on one most frequently right now and will probably make one of the others a "travel" book to read on the go. (Long trips or just when I have time on breaks or if I get to work early, etc.)

Moonshadow 07-31-2017 11:37 PM

:p-nod:I am so ridiculous I have one next to the toilet. I won't do that again! hahaha
I just found my copy of The Devil in the White City, I remember you read it and thought it was good and worth the read. I also found Ghostboy and Lily Dale. I plan to read those when I go to Maine the end of the month.
