mine might actually have the "fantasy novel of the year" banner on it!
yeah, it's quite political - which was another reason i needed a bookmark at the start of the appendix/cast of characters - to see who all was aligned wtih who! also, i've finished my Chicgoland vamps book, and on to the latest Stephanie Plum novel, Turbo Twenty-Three (it was published last year) |

I just kind of realized that I know who's where, but I don't know where those places are compared to other places on the continent, world, etc. |
yeah, that happens too, Kaderin!
|
I just finished The Evil Genius, by Wilkie Collins.
I am going to start next the Kristin Lavransdatter TRilogy. I'm going to read the first book if I like it I will read the other two if not I'm not going to force myself. |
i finished Turbo Twenty-Three. *updates my list*
|
I'm making progress on Kristin ... up to page 30 already. Its very descriptive of Norway in the 1300's. I'm trying to get into that space in my head.
|
Haven't been reading too much lately. Felt crummy and suddenly binge watching Turn. My sister in law put it on and now I'm paying attention to it. Darn.
|
LOL Quiet Man!
i get distracted by Netflix when my younger daughter is watching or rewatching something. case in point - i'm watching Parks & Recreation with her again. =D |
It's my brother's netflix account, and I can't be bothered with it when they aren't visiting so I didn't even know this show was a thing. I hardly watch TV except for the few tv shows that I record. Right now, that's Doctor Who and Face/Off, though I haven't watched any Doctor Who in some time. Takes me a while to get around to actually watching things now. I'm usually on a game instead.
Hence my curiosity for Death by Video Game. It also doesn't help that the TV is in this room and my other books are downstairs in my room. |
technically it's my netflix account. =)
i watch a few shows, including Dr Who, and with the exception of my shows that were on tonight, i'm all caught up. =) i have to change the book i'm reading in my sig, it's a different one. |
Alas, Death By Video Game does not fit any categories on either of my challenge lists so it goes into the superfluous books list.
|
updated the book in my sig. it's a look at the supernatural fandom, but it was published in 2012, which means it's only through season 7, and there have been five more in the meantime! XD
(so it'll be accurate only for the early days of the fandom - which was pretty much the time i was crazy involved in it. i extracted myself from the fandom around s5, and was completely out of it by the time s7 came around.) |
I have been reading non-stop lately. I am almost finished with The Wreath, and I plan to read the other two books The Bride and The Cross, which complete the trilogy. I expected not to like it but I am loving it, so I will continue on to the next book.
|
I guess I could clarify. I actually am reading quite a bit, but it's internet fanfiction and therefore not list worthy. ;)
|
nothing wrong with fanfic. make it its own category. =)
|
What's if it's stuff that I've read before?
|
well, i'm okay with that =)

Also rereading a book is reading! So feel free to add that too. I have books that I have read 7 or 8 times and I always list them. You can also add a page count. |
I'm going to stick to physical books for now, to get me to actually read the stuff I've purchased.

Enough staring at Steam! I shall read some book, darnit!
|
I have read some book! A couple chapters, actually. If you're interested in the psychology around video games, Death By Video Game is very interesting. The author talks about the various draws as well as the various things people have done with them, and I'm personally interested in how much of this I can find relatable.
I haven't been reading a whole lot because, amusingly and perhaps fittingly, I'm distracted by the Steam sale and playing video games. |
I remember in the library they had a book about Second Life, and the creator. Now I can't find it. I was on Second LIfe for maybe a week, that shit is crazy!

Apparently, my the library here had a 3 day book sale a few days ago, but it was so poorly advertised that I didn't know about it until my friend that does custodial work there on Sundays told me about it. |
one of the libraries near me is having a book sale the weekend of august 10th... i think. i'll go and look around. i have some Castle books i want to buy for cheap. XD
|
Library sales are the best! But that does create a problem for people like me that want to read every book they see, but read so slow and just doesn't have all day to read!
|
Someday I will try to make it to a library sale! *stares at the bookcase full of books that I've only read half of and then at the pile of unread books that won't fit in the bookcase*
|
I've been lax on my reading.
I see little ideas here and there for bookshelves and part of me can't wait to get my own house so I can try some of these. I like the chair with hollowed out arms so you can stack books in them, or the staircase that has books underneath each step. Fun things. Floating shelves are cool, too, though I have issues with laying books on their side for long...can damage the spine. |
i started book #24 earlier today: Hollow City: The Second Novel of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs
:D |
Ah! I've been wanting to read those books! I skimmed the first one when I saw it in Target a couple years back!
|
i saw the movie a few months back and enjoyed it.... so i picked up the first book last week for the reason that it was on the library shelf. now i'm up to book 2. there's three in the series, plus a book of 'Tales of the Peculiar' that looks like it might be a fun read.
|
I'm one of those people that prefers to read the book(s) before watching the movie or tv show. Although, I have seen quite a few movies that I didn't realize were books first. And in only one case, so far, has the movie been better than the book.
|
I had the curious spot of being half-way through Fellowship of the Ring before I saw the movie, and that seemed to work for me. I knew what the movie was doing to the material in the first half, and the second half was still new. Didn't really spoil the book too much, though that might have been because I saw the old films repeatedly and therefore knew how the story more-or-less went.
|
I do applaud how well done the LotR trilogy was. A lot of movies tend to be disappointing when compared to the books, but, despite having to make cuts here and there, they actually kept it pretty close.
|
I think they did a good job of editing out the superfluous material. For example, I know people who were angry that Tom Bombadil got axed, but really, he never did much for the story. He was more part of the world. The one roll he did play, they gave to Treebeard in the extended edition. Same in Moria. The stuff that happened in the room with Balin's tomb happened in the book over three different rooms. Gotta cut time somewhere.
With all the Harry Potter anniversary stuff going on now, I'm thinking I might need to finish the series. I think I've already encountered the big spoilers. |
i have learned to never finish reading the book and then immediately going to see the movie. i spent a LOT of Jurassic Park poking my date (who's now my husband) and whispering at him loudly, "that wasn't in the book!!"
yeah. |
Quiet: Ah the Harry Potter series. I have a love/hate relationship with those movies.
As a series, there was a lot that was cut or changed that really shouldn't have been or that really didn't need to be. Some of the movies were better than others, but some of them were really just not that hreat. BUT they are still entertaining and I don't hate them. Although why the hell did they have to change the Ravenclaw colors from blue and bronze to blue and silver? That never made sense to me. Trystan: the Jurassic Park movies were awful with all the stuff they changed and cut. The first one was a little closer at least, but still not great. Although I do enjoy the movies on their own. |
I've read the first four books, seen the 5th movie, and bits and pieces of the others. I kind of want to skip Order of the Phoenix because I'd rather not deal with Umbridge and wasn't all that fond of the film.
|
Haha...personally, I thought Umbridge was a fantastic character. A perfect villian to bring into the series.
And I'll be honest, Order of the Pheonix was the first book in the series to actually make me cry. |
