I would think non-carnivorous animal poop would be best for planting...
My fitness coach puts her dog's poop in her garden sometimes... But honestly, I don't think it does much for plants? Like... imagine watering your plants with animal blood or melted animal fat. Maybe that's not how plants work, but I would think that mostly veggie based poo would work the best with plants. Like compost, you know? |
meat or veg-eating doesn't really mean anything on it's own. it's more what the plant needs, assuredly most dogs have a really poor diet(as most dogs are fed commercial dog kibble which is pretty bad) so i wouldn't recommend it for much XD though there has been a fair bit of luck with cows as theirs lines up better with the type of garden plants a lot of people use, worm is popular too with veg and ornamental flowers but like i said the plant is important and has different chemical needs based on what it is and where it is planted
|
Blood and bone meal is actually a very good fertilizer for plants that like phosphorus and nitrogen.
Goat poop doesn't make very good fertilizer because they have really efficient digestive systems and they strip most of the nutrients out of their food. You have to be careful with chicken poop because there are actually so many nutrients and ammonia in it that it can burn your plants. |
i've heard that about chickens, though not about goats
|
I didn't know about it until I lived on a goat farm for a while and had a conversation with the vet about goat anatomy haha.
|
do you have any other neat goat facts? owo
|
That makes sense!
I didn't think about the type of plants :o I know usually, I use compost for my veggies and herbs. Like, when I juice, I take the pulp and put it in with my plants. But those are probably much different than other plants like flowers and things like that |
yeah, the dietary needs of plants vary widely though having a good all'rounder compost is always a good thing for edibles ^^

Some women use the blood from their menstrual cups on their gardens!
I won't do that to choco-potato though |
thankyou for that ;x; ladies are swell but that's a bit too much for poor choco
|
Ooo! That sounds interesting!
I use a menstrual cup myself. I've been considering collecting the blood for a while. But since I'm in an apartment right now, I decided against it. We only have two bathrooms, and when people visit, I'd rather them not see a jar of my menstrual blood when they need to use the toilet lol I do feel like the menstrual blood would make my veggies and herbs sad :( |
So my poop is ok but my blood is where you cross the line????
ok. |
It is not a neat fact, but billy goats pee on their beards to attract lady goats. They also um... "clean" themselves....if you catch my meaning...
They are believed to be the first animal that humans domesticated and we have been tending goats as a species for over 9000 years |
so what sort of plants do you guys grow? we have mint and roses and zinnia and succulents in our garden(though most of it has gone for the winter at this point)
|
dude, i am sure anything that can reach would x''D
|
That goat fact... goats, what's ur issue
|
In the summer we grow mostly salad greens, broccoli, snap peas, cannabis and a variety of kitchen herbs. At my elevation we have a really short growing season so things like tomatoes, squash and cabbages don't do super well. We tried red cabbage this year and the ones we managed to grow were smaller around than my palm lol
|
have you tried hot-housing? a bit of clearish tarp or glass over the boxes can do wonders if you make sure to let the plants breathe a little. we grew forearm-length cucumbers that way and fed all the local caterpillars and mantasis XD
|
Yeah, the problem is that we just don't get enough sunlight here once fall sets in and even during the summer it still can drop down to 40F degrees at night.
|
That sounds so nice, Mekatra
I'm just saying that because I've been living a 100F nightmare, of course |
the covering helps with the temps actually, not sure what to do if there is too little light to grow things
|
Without the longer sunlight exposure the soil just never gets warm enough for some plants. That's okay though. We just learn to plant what we can. Some things work, some don't. That's life.
We had 8 inches of snow the day before Halloween, mdom lol |
that is fair
i wonder if there are any edible low-light plants? |
I've never seen snow, so I'd love to see that xDDD
|
snow is so lovely but you have to be ok with wet. snow is sooooo wet
|
When it is the dead of winter here is the best snow time because it is SO cold that the snow is all nice and powdery instead of wet and slushy. Doesn't help you when it melts of course, but it is much nicer than humid snow.
A lot of people around here complain about it, but I love it. The mountains are prettier and everything just seems softer and quieter. |
not to mention cleaner. you cannot see as much of the general muck that is on so much stuff XD
|
I loove the sparkly snow the best!
My house had a random lamp post in the front yard and when it got dark, that lamp post would light up the snow and make it look sparkly! Also, I liked to pretend my house was in Narnia because of that lamp post. |
it kind of sounds a little lonely though
|
I wish it snowed here. x( (stupid central CA)
|
I'm ok with wet.
It's also very dry here |
it's pretty wet here. mold is an issue
|
hmmm you need more ventilation. I'll bring a wall down
|
hahaha, nooo! it is wetter outside XD
|
Fine, fine, then I'll get you more fans!
|
and a tea towel XD

Oftentimes, we'd get snowed in overnight and it would take all morning to shovel the driveway... And there was nothing but white for what felt like miles and miles. It would get so bad sometimes that my parents would postpone my birthday parties sometimes until March or April because the snow would be really bad in my birth month January and since we lived in the woods and it was often really hard for people to find our home and if they did, it was even harder to find parking in the dark and in the snow. :( |
i hope you at least got your gift(s) on time?
