*nod nod!* I'm reading a book right now about a man who was translating the Bible for a tribe in Papua New Guinea who wanted it. And they were working on Joseph's story. And the men were hanging on every word, and then yelling angrily when they found out what Potipher's wife did. And then, with another story, they didn't even want lunch. They were over by the typewriter reading each new word as it came out. They were talking proof readers out of books so they could read them, bugging the tribespeople who had already learned to teach them.
|
Wow, that's amazing XD! But I guess it makes sense. Reading is kind of magical, if I think about it a certain way. Granted, not every group of people thinks that, it seems :o
|
When people say they don't like reading books because they find all books boring, the thought in my head is that they have no imagination. .-.
|
Or they haven't found the right book!!
like, if I get as badly written book, I'll find it boring xD |
Most people whom say that are generally to stubborn to actually try to find a good book, That or they dont look in the right place. That is my opinion at least.

And then there was the Asian people group where the translator just used the local mainstream alphabet and used it to write their language. There were puzzled frowns at the books, and then people were laughing and reading out loud. Quote:

I wish for a book that never ends <3
|
I've asked people that say that before if they have something like dyslexia, 90% of them didn't, they just prefer reading things like People's magazine and stuff like that. They will 100% turn their noses up to books. .-. Then again most of these people were the ones I went to school with, so meh? *shrugs shoulders* We had a large class, but second worst education rating in our state.

...but the Xanth novels have over 50 in the series...that's kind of like never-ending... |
"fandom" x'D... I read fanfiction but, it's a little hard to find something that I'll like--since the worlds are always a little different.
Oh wow, over 50 books is a lot '_'. Is it good though? |
Mom likes them. I liked the first trilogy^3.
Xanth started out like Discworld, but has had ups and downs. There is some frustration on the Author's part because he would like to do more than just Xanth, but he keeps in good spirit with the books. |
The first 27 books?
The universe sounds interesting :o. I need to read it when I get the time! |
Ahh. The magazine readers.

One Piece seems to never end. I lost my page D:
|
As I've gotten older, I've found I'm less and less drawn to anime and manga... Don't get me wrong, I have several beloved shows/movies, but anymore, it really doesn't appeal to me the way it did when I was younger.
|
I can understand that--I'm finding myself not really getting into those as I used to ^^;;
|
I need a new fantasy series to read ._.
|
If you like web comics I have several. =^_^=
|
I've got a core list of about 10-15 that I read regularly.
|
Some webcomics also never seem to end xD
|
Right. Forgot about web comics.
Natsu, read 'Marooned'. It's hilarious, and cute, and snarky! And not manga. |
The marooned comic site isn't working D:
|
Adult Webcomics:
Misfile FlipSide Black Tapestries/Realm of Kaerwyn Good Webcomics: TwoKinds Hopeless, Maine Wrongside ...and Natsu, this is the Library...there are plenty of books that are free on page 1. I'd suggest the Fiction, A-Z section. :D |
Twokinds and and Wrongside look really cute :o
For some reason the art of twokinds reminds of Chinese or Taiwanese anime characters xD. I think it's in their expressions. |

Hopeless, Maine and TwoKinds are the best ones on the list.
One is Lovecraftian and deals with topics like losing your loved ones and finding your own way. (And I know the author and illustrator - they're a couple in the UK.) The other is written by Markiplier's brother. |
Wow. The site totally got broken after I read the last few pages. Major Tom should have it repaired soon. I hope. I really like that story.
|
Im not to into web comics ^^´ i like holding books. Im weird like that

It's not weird at all. Just harder to help out there...
What do you look for in a fantasy series? |
I also like tô hold my books xD
I do follow bluechair though |
I like holding books too xD, but web stuff is easier to get to.
|
My only acception is manga.
As for what i like generally anything action adventure with fantasy elements mixed in.. Things like the l.o.t.r. series |

...You might like that latter, Natsu. It's more SW-sy than LoTR-sy, but still very good. And hilarious in places, and sad in places, and cheesy great in others. |
There's only been two webcomics that I've wanted physical copies of... one's Skullkickers, the other's one that may be a bit controversial due to the subject matter, but I recommend it to friends regularly. I'll give people the link over PM, but only if they're 18 or older.
|
WELL. I am 24, but its a webcomic.
Sw-sy sounds good!! Ill look it up |
When my tablet was working I read some stuff there... because I didn't need to hold it xD /lazylife
|
...Heirs of Alexandria are a thing...where essentially magic was discovered in the Library of Alexandria...
...Temeraire Series, where Dragons exist in a rather accurate alternative history of the Napoleonic War, and are as big as ships (with crews and black powder). ...Oh! If you are okay with Mercedes Lackey style works, there's the Dragon Jousters! Sort of a reimagining of Atlantis and Egypt where there are Egyptian-style gods, avatars, (dragons, of course), and soul-magic able to control nature. ...Or the Sovereign Stone Trilogy...which essentially has ent-hobbits, undead magic, avatar magic, elemental dragons, Warpspawn, dwarf horsemen, and a nation of sailing Orcs. ...Not sure about Acorna's World or the Elvenbane series...the former is Anne McCathy (who like George Orwell can be a tad...off at times) and the latter has Author Existence Failure (she died on the third/fourth book) |
All of those sounds really good ill look them up!
