Fantasy is one of my favorites~ Just outs you barely beyond the realm of reality and it is almost calming. And even though I used to be a religious person I think I might have a brief understanding of your relation with music, with the way you describe it, though obviously I would have experienced it in my own way. It's just that moment where the music is just so peaceful it kind of fills you with a warm feeling?
And man xD Don't even get me started on rooms. If it is messy under normal people's standards I am afraid to even know with my ocd for cleanliness and organization. |
Yeah, well, but it isn't always peaceful, but it does definitely make you feel pretty good. Even though Green Day is my favorite band (and I'm pretty much in love with everything they do), Muse tends to take me to a higher plane as often as not, I guess keeping them true to their name. Haha. But whether the emotion is anger, or passion, or hatred, or love, it all comes across really strongly in my favorite music.
Yeah... You definitely don't want to know. I spent hours just bagging up all of my yarn. I have three garbage bags full of yarn and that isn't even all of it. Imagine how bad that all gets when it's tangled. Eugh. Mostly it was that, and clothes, which covered the floor... |
Muse is a nice band, I think they have developed their music to harmonize and it is just naturally appealing to one's ears. -w- I actually like them as a band.
Bah! That is why i keep all of my yarn in a container beneath my bin, and have them all folded into balls of yarn >n> No skeins for me, they get tangled too often and I spend more time untangling them than I do crocheting. |
And I will share this one too~: http://youtu.be/Xd8tOAJMA8Q
|
Yeah, but there is no container that I have which is big enough to carry it all, and at any rate the tangling was mainly with stuff that I was actually working on, and I don't want to put that stuff away because then how can I pick it back up D<. Which is moreso the case with knitting than with crocheting.
|
It is true xD And while I am more of an avid crocheter than a knitter (and by 'knitter' I mean I can make a tiny little piece and nothing more XD) I know that knitting seems to be much more difficult to keep intact and neat, since there are two needles in opposition to one crochet hook. Though, it could simply be because of my lack of experience with knitting as well.

Yeah, I heard that song ages ago once or twice, and I do rather like it. One new artist I'm looking into is Frank Turner... looking into getting a CD of his, waffling about where/when I am going to get it. That sounds strange but it is the matter of monetary versus physical output on my part and the matter of having to wait for it to be mailed versus getting it and listening to it on the same day. Ah well. I'll figure it out. I'm just glad to have an artist to check out...

I do not believe I have heard of Frank Turner, though perhaps I will look up a few of his songs later. Do you recommend any one in particular?
And it is true, sadly. Simply looking between crochet and knitted works it is easily visible that knitting provides a wider berth in which to customize one's work and add both texture as well as a pattern to the work. Which isn't to say I have not seen patterns added to crochet, I just find them harder and see much less ways to do so than with knitting. I still prefer my crochet though, and if you get a small enough hook you can become very intricate; I received a lace needle from my grandmother rather recently and I am excited to learn to make doilies and just make super cute little pieces~ |
It's not so much what you can add to make it fancy, as much as the basic fabric that I like. A basic knitted fabric is smoother and, in my opinion much prettier than a single crocheted fabric. But it's much easier to do lace with crochet, and it's great for things like flowers and small motifs. I have just about every hook size from a tiny steel size 14 (don't know the exact measurement but it's about 1mm) to an "S" / 15mm hook... And a similar range in knitting needles. I've also tried tunisian / afghan crochet, which is interesting, and adds a whole different set of looks...

As for Frank Turner, the first song taht comes to mind is called "If Ever I Stray," and another good one from the same album is called "English Curse". That album is called England Keep My Bones. If you couldn't guess, he's Australian. And by Australian, I mean English, because I am being sarcastic.
|
Yeah, that tunisian /afghan style was what I was referring to~ I haven't been able to do anything like that, since I am not skilled enough in crochet to do so, but I have seen it and I think it is amazing. That is, seeing as i have seen little more in crochet than single, double, half, and intricate motifs and doilies. Though in truth I mainly just need to practice my crochet and i am sure that after enough times sitting on the couch and just crocheting I could eventually be able to make the afghan, or at least a granny square. (And yes, i don't know how to make a granny square and i still call myself a crocheter, they confuse me greatly. ;n; )

Ah, yeah xD it is hard to pass sarcasm across the internet, though I will add those to my watch later list and see how I feel about them~
EDIT: Another song for you~ xD http://youtu.be/E5V7nfZEhMs |
Well, I've learned all I know about knitting and crocheting from the internet. Initially youtube, and then ravelry, knitty.com, and pattern sites. Eventually I got to buying books. Most of them are pattern books, though. Afghan crochet requires a particular kind of hook, unless you are making a very narrow strip. Grannies, however, are something of the bread and butter of crochet. But you can still be counted in its ranks without knowing the granny square, I assure you.
Yes, well, if you look up one of the songs, chances are a few of the others will show up on the side of youtube, if that's where you plan on watching XD. He is described as being "folk/punk" which you might think an interesting combination but based on the Mumford and Sons song might not be too far out of reach. EDIT: Wow, i saw that video once, a million years ago, based on... I think i was on the director's website because he worked with some of my favorites a couple of times. |
Bah, I am only now beginning to find things on the internet in relation to crocheting xD I learned the old style way directly from my Grandmother, which came with some mistakes, apparently. For the longest time I was intimidated with the patterns and their abbreviations for chains and stitches, though now that I am warming up to them I can finally see just how much can be made aside from scarves xD Though soon D< Soon! I will achieve creation of a granny square.
It certainly is an interesting combination. I have heard plenty of folk, but not much punk, though from what I understand of the genre I feel like it could make a very nice combination and balance out well. EDIT: Oh yay xD I have to say the music is half the fun to the song, all of the balloons~ Though i did not know the video was that old, I only recently learned of the song |
I came into knitting basically by the fact that I like crafting, and I was trying to find a way to recycle plastic bags and old t-shirts, I cut them up into "yarn" and then taught myself to knit via the internet... The very first thing I ever knit was made out of plastic yarn using two pencils. That was... I think... four years ago. Maybe. I don't know. I don't keep track. But my mom was never much of a crafter, she doesn't have the sit-down patience for it, and my grandmother did crochet but never really taught me as I couldn't get beyond the chain... Well, I'm left handed so I imagine that was part of the challenge. Actually I don't think she ever really thought about it much and later in her life she was losing her vision so she couldn't really do it herself. I promise you there is a video out there which will help you make a granny square.
Yeah, I like punk and the feel of it, though obviously I'm not exactly part of the "scene" and really, I'm about 20 years too late, but it is a nice starting point to work from as it has a lot of emotion in it (even though it is mostly angry). |
