he opened his mouth to repeat his earlier statement about keeping the other in good condition for negotiations but closed it again when he realized that wasn't it anymore. his scowl turned into a dead flat line "lima" he let go of the technician and angrily left the bathroom stalking back up the stairs. he failed his mission, even if they won he finally failed
Samuel watched Leslie leave before following him. He wondered what had caused to other to suddenly flee. It had been an unusual reaction to the question he had posed.
he did not speak to the other when the man came through the door. he spent his time instead reformulating his plan of action, he could not let the other go, the need to finish what he spent so much time on was deeply ingrained into his person, he was a well-washed soldier in that regard, he would not defect. but on the other hand the other had showed no signs of aggression to him or the machines. he didn't think the other would try anything funny though he worried that left to his own devices his hands would be ruined if he was not watched. he sighed and went to his spot, he folded into lotus and tried to relax.
Samuel watched the other mediate for a while, having finally found the common sense not to annoy him. He absent mindedly rubbed the place were the other had grabbed, he had bruises forming there that he could see but not feel. Something was obviously disturbing Leslie and Samuel was unsure of what it was.
when he had come out of his contemplations he noticed the other was staring. "yes?"
"Something is wrong." Samuel said simply, not moving his gaze. "With you or your current situation, I mean."
his first thought was to say nothing but he had been the one to ask and to be honest there was nothing the other could really do. "i no longer feel indirent to your plight and have empathy towards you. though to be sure this does not mean you are free to go." he looked away "i won't tie or sedate you if i don't need to but you still will be escorted everywhere, you can't leave my line of sight"
Samuel processed this then bit back a groan. Now his captor professed to understand and stated the Samuel was not to leave his sight. This made things difficult for the both of them and Samuel had a slight wish that Leslie was a bit more logical.
he watched the other make a face "would you rather remain bound? actually, n, that is a stupid thing to ask. more, did you not want to be allotted more freedom?"
"I never said, or even alluded, to that." Samuel said. He was not about to tell Leslie why he had made the face, he was sure the other would not appreciate being told that he should be less human.
he changed topic. "unless you want to keep it to the stairs running is out of the options we have for keeping you occupied. do you read?"
Samuel gave Leslie a 'duh' expression. "Of course I read." He had read for both entertainment and for edification.
he ignored the look as well "for fun you don't strike me as the sort so it is better to ask than to lug up some and have you read nothing"
"I do, on occasion, read books for more then personal edification." Samuel said. He ignored the barb at what he did for fun. "Though I have wierd tastes in books I read for fun."
"will you read anything from the reference library if i take you?"
"As long as there is something about mechanics or Sci-fi I'll be fine." Samuel said, those where the only things he read though.
he said nothing. he did not know if the man was being sarcastic or not, he hoped he was, it would be a sad state if the head mechanic had no grasp of what was and was not held in a reference library. he stood again and headed for the door.
Samuel was teasing...sloghtly. He was aware of what was in the reference section but the other's face made his last comment worth it. He was serious about his book favorites though. "Come on." Samuel said. "You can go raid the library and I'll see if there is anything that vaugly intrests me."
they descended the stairs quietly. he still felt uncomfortable with this new development and had nothing else worth discussing. he hoped the man would let it slide. he let the other exit first to unlock the doors
Samuel did not bother talking to Leslie, the other still seemed discomforted by his recent admission. The lack of conversation ment lack of stimulation and Samuel found his mind wandering far.
the other simply stood at the door. he sighed and gave a push "unlock it"
Samuel was brought back to the present by Leslie demanding that he open the door. Samuel gave Leslie a glare and opened the door with his pascode.
he followed the other in and the light flicked to life. belatedly he realized he did not bring the other two back. shrugging his shoulders he followed behind the other "find something you like"
Samuel immediatly started scanning for a book that even remotely held his eye and found a few. He picked them up and leafed through them eventually picking two large tomes to take back with him.
without looking he grabbed a book from either side of where the other had taken his and pulled them to his chest "any more or just those two?"
"Just these two." Samuel said. "None of the others where interesting enough." Not that he really cared either way but it was nice to pretend occasionally.
he nodded and walked in front of the other, when they both passed through he had the man lock back up and they ascended the stairs
Samuel was already at the top of the steps and reading when the other came up. He declined commenting on how slow Leslie was and continued reading his book. It was a mechanicle encyclopedia; the closest thing the reference library had to what he liked.
the other was perched on the landing so he could nearly see the spine, he took the last few steps and tipped the book up with a finger "encyclopedia of bioengineering ba-du" well, it did seem appropriate for his sort though he was still unsure that the other was actually interested and not simply putting up a front. pulling the book back to it's original spot he stepped onto the landing and went through the door looking around as he did. better safe than sorry
The book was interesting and Samuel zoned out for several hours while reading it. Most of it was only theory, biopengineering not really having much attention put to it. Some if it provided thoughtfull insight and Samuel made a few mental notes.
he spent the silence in quiet meditation, for the first time in a while he felt himself relax
Unfortunatly the book did not hold out to long and Samuel was not intrested in reading another right now. He attempted to pace quietly as not to disturb Leslie's meditation.
a niggling feeling started up in the back of his mind and he opened one eye in exasperation, the tech was passing now. he sighed to himself, it would be his luck that the other would not be able to hold out "ok, what would it take to calm you down?"
Samuel paused momentarily in his pacing to process the other's question. "I'm not sure." He answered semi-truthfully. He was not going to answer excersie because of what had happened last time.
this time he sighed aloud "well you can't keep pacing and i am not going to sedate you, what did you do before?"
Samuel leveled the other with a glare, "Fix something." It was rahter obvious in his profession that that was what he was always doing. It had become a rahter calming exercise for him.
he looked around for something breakable, on his second sweep he saw a little radio. picking it up he slammed it against the wall once and handed it to the other "fix this"
Samuel raised an eyebrow and stiffled a laugh but got right to work. He did not have all the nessisary equipment on him but enough that would do. "And of all things you pick up an old radio." It was rather ancient compared to the other items in the room even if it was not all that old in design having only come ot five years ago.
he shrugged, there was nothing else that could be spared "you did not say what you wanted to fix"
"Yeah, yeah." Samuel said clearly dismissing whatever the other said as not important. He was focausing completly on the project at hand, someone could blow the door in and he probably would not notice.
