Fesoya was so terrible. He was basically just a higher level version of Tellah. "Oh look, I can cast Meteor but I only have 190 mp while Rydia has 640 and can cast Bahamut for half the price trolololol"

Oh, well, it turns out Golbez was being mind controlled by another evil wizard who lives on the moon, and he goes up there ahead of you to try and kill the guy, and you arrive just in time to see Golbez lose to him, for which he has a proper battle sprite. :P

No, he has a battle sprite that shows up near the end of the game. I'm guessing you never got that far? :P
