Seraphim (plural of Seraph) : [from the Hebrew for "burning ones"]

A class of angelic beings belonging to the highest rank or "choir" of angels in Christian theology. They are attendants at God's throne, and are described in the book of Isaiah in the Bible. They are described as having six wings - two to cover their face, two to cover their feet, and two to fly with. Their duty is said to be to cry out "holy, holy, holy" in praise of God continually. No individual names of seraphs are noted in scripture. They are not to be confused with Cherubim - a slightly lower class of angelic being who also attend God's throne by guarding it. (And Cherubim are also not to be confused with "cherubs" [winged tots] - who are properly called "putti".)
